You Get What You Pay For, with Blink Tears Mild-Moderate Dry Eye Lubricating Eye Drops

Susan Slade
Blink Tears come in mild-moderate, and moderate-severe formulas. I was lucky enough to receive a professional sample bottle of the mild-moderate to try. The size of the cute blue bottle is 0.06 fluid ounce (2 ml). My husband Len was actually given them when he had his eye test.

I do use eye drops on a daily basis, because without them I rub my eyes, and they do feel dry, and itchy.

I have been using Artificial Tears lubricating eye drops, which are only found at Wal-Mart stores, and they run less than a buck. I was really interested to find out what Blink Tears would do differently, for 7 times the price.

I unscrewed the cap of the Blink Tears, held my head back, and then opened each eye wide. I had no problem getting one drop in each eye. As soon as this happened I blinked, and the eye drop, covered my eye. I have to say that almost immediately my eyes felt cool. I don't get this feeling with the cheaper eye drops. Also with the cheap Wal-Mart brand, when I tip the bottle up, open my eyes, and give the bottle a tiny squeeze, I can get several drops at a time, and waste them. I need a Kleenex to clean around my eye area.

Okay, so I am using less product with the Blink Tears.

My eyes get blurred, even though I have had an eye test, and new glasses. A couple of weeks ago I was doing my book keeping at a pool supplies store, and the chemicals really got to my eyes. I had used the cheap artificial tears before going. Once I got home my eyes were so bad, that I took a loratadine pill, in case it was allergies. I personally think it was being in the shop for a long period of time, as it didn't kick in, and give me any relief.

On the box of Blink Tears, the directions are to instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed. I use eye drops morning and night.

This week before I went to work, I used the Blink Tears Mid-Moderate Dry Eye lubricating eye drops. As soon as I walked in the store, the chemical smell, hit me. I do the majority of my work on the computer, and I have to say that although my eyes weren't perfect, they were much improved on the last visit. When I came home I put one drop of Blink Tears in each eye. Again almost immediately my eyes were cool, and my slightly blurred vision, came back to normal.

I really don't know the difference from the ingredients in either product, but Blink have Polyethylene Glycol 400 0.25%, which is an eye lubricant. Artificial Tears have Polyvinyl alcohol 0.5% Povidone 0.6%.

Blink Tears also state on their packaging:

"Restores your tear film each time you blink.
Clinically shown to improve tear film stability.
Gentle OcuPure preservative disappears in your eye."

My conclusion is that Blink Tears Lubricating Eye Drops mild-moderate dry eye, do a far superior job that the generic brand. A bottle of eye drops lasts me months, so when I spread the $7 or so cost of Blink Tears over that time period, I think that they are worth the extra money. After all, trying to drive with blurred vision, could cause me to have an accident, so this is a small price to pay.

I always look to save money, and am very frugal in what I buy, but on this rare occasion I am going for brand quality.

Without good eye drops I would not have been able to read the small print on the bottom of the box. Thank you Blink.
