It read "Expressing my first amendment right to declare that I'm a Christian" in a large white letters.
After chuckling to myself then feeling embarrassed as Christian, I had some questions pop up in my head.
1. Why do I care that you are a Christian?
2.What happened to a simple Jesus fish on people's bumpers?
3. Since when have the first amendment rights of Christians been trampled on by anyone in America to declare their Christianity?
I think it is sad that this person is under the thought that they are living in a society that persecutes them for their faith. No American Christian can state with a pure conscience that they have been truly persecuted for their beliefs while living in the states.
This person must think they are some sort of rebel by oh so boldly declaring their faith to whoever sees their vehicle. That must be easy to do in a town that is almost the buckle of the Bible belt. I wonder if they would be so bold if they thought that there would be any consequences for being a Christian. Would they still wear their faith like a badge of distinction if they knew they and their family could be brutally murdered because of it.
I realize that I'm extremely blessed to be living in America. I don't have to worry about government persecution, considering a good percentage of the government is run by Christians. I don't worry about getting dragged out of my house and beaten for my beliefs. I am not blaming this person for being an American, I am accusing them of being ignorant and representative of everything I find so wrong in the American church. Christianity is not about making political statements, it's not about controversy, it's about serving.
If I was an not a believer, seeing that car would do nothing but turn me off to anything related to Christianity. It is junk like this that feeds the idea in America that Christianity is nothing but a bunch of over-weight white pastors preaching hate against homosexuals and whining about how their faith is being trashed by either the liberal media or the ACLU.
