You Can Get There from Here, but I'm Not Sure that You'll Believe My Explanation

Chapter One

It was a clear, cool, fall day in Central Florida, The rainy season was over and Izzy was in a meeting that was nearing its end. It was the last day of an entire week of very successful meetings that she had the opportunity to
attend. What she'd learned was going to help her a great deal in her job.

She became aware of a very strange headache which she'd never experienced before. It felt like someone had wrapped an iron band around her head like the band of a hat, just above her ears. The speaker was wrapping up the meeting with some final comments when he interrupted himself. Turning to her, he said, "You have
a band around your head and you need a clear head. You have a band around your head and you need a clear head."

Then he finished up the meeting. She and George, her husband, raced out of the meeting since they had an appointment and didn't have much time to get there. So she had to leave her questions unanswered. As they left, the headache was no longer an issue since it dissipated.

The next day as she was driving home from an appointment that she went to on a regular basis. She drove that way several times a week. She was coming up on the first of two turnoffs that could take her home. She decided to go to the second exit. She passed the first exit, went under the overpass and up the rise toward
home. She was about two miles past the exit when she suddenly found herself back at that exit driving toward the light. She realized what had happened when she was turning the corner toward home.

She started to shake and to become very upset. She wanted to scream, but she didn't. She didn't know what else to do but to just drive home. She talked to herself, saying, "Just calm down. Clear your head. Don't panic. You can figure this out later. You can't do this in the middle of traffic." When she got home, she told George about
what happened. He wasn't sure whether to believe her or not. He said to her, "As long as I've known you I've known you to always play it straight with me. But this is, like, way out there."

She answered, "Yes, I realize that. Don't you think I've already thought about that? However, while I was telling myself to have a clear head I was reminded of what that guy said yesterday, in the meeting."

He responded with, "You're right. What do you think this might mean?"

She said that she didn't know and that maybe they would find out since they'd been warned.

The next day, she was on her way back to the same place when she decided to take the closest exit instead of the far one. The next thing she knew, everything outside the car became a blur as she whizzed down the road, turning on what she thought was the first exit. As she turned on the road everything slowed down and she found
herself back at the same exit she's been at the day before, the far exit. She started to shake and to cry and to yell, telling herself to calm down. She didn't have time to get upset she had an appointment to keep.

When she got home she told George what had happened. He didn't know what to think about it. They talked about it some more then decided to just leave it be until something came up to explain the situation.

The days passed as she continued with her daily appointments and her job. She and several partners had formed a nonprofit organization where they gathered supplies, originally for other partners and nonprofit organizations in other regions of the country. They met in each others' homes to work on the different projects.

She and some of her local partners were working on a project where they were getting ready to ship off some needed supplies to some of their partners who lived in Hawaii and Alaska. They'd been collecting, making, cataloging and packing the items for several weeks and were just about ready to ship off the packages.

Their network had expanded a few years ago, into Europe, and their new project required her to take the items with her since she was also being asked to personally consult on a situation that she and her partners had experience in. They had a month to get everything ready, since her reservation was already confirmed, most of the arrangements were already in place and she was expected. She also had to make out her lists, do the research and pack her personal things and the items she was taking. She was due to leave in early February.

She had three different places that she was going to on this trip. She was meeting with some new contacts, potential new partners and with some established partners in three different cities in different parts of the country.

She'd told her partners about the strange things that happened to her the previous year. They told her to just wait and see what would come of it, to see if anything else might happen.

A week after they'd sent off the packages and were into the project that she was personally carrying with her she had a very strange dream. She decided to wait until she was able to go with George to meet with their partners before she discussed it with anyone.

They'd agreed to meet at hers and George's house. When everyone had been seated around the kitchen table she told them about the dream, to get their feedback on what it might mean.

One of her partners, Suzy asked, "So, what is this dream that you wanted to talk to us about?"

Izzy started sharing the dream. "I found myself in the office of a foreign leader. The office wasn't very big and it was lined with books from the floor to the ceiling. The office was primarily red with a lot of brown wood paneling. This leader doesn't know our language and I don't know his. But we were able to speak to each other with understanding without a translator in the room. He was seated behind his desk. I was standing before him.

"I'd been sent there to tell him that he needed to change course in some of the things that he was doing. The person who'd sent me knew some of the situations that this leader was involved in and knew some things that were hidden from this man. He knew that there were some dangerous things involved with this leader's
dealings and that if he kept doing what he was doing, the way he was doing it, that his life could be in danger. He was gracious to me and thanked me for my warning. I woke up."

Suzy said, "Wow, that was some dream. I wonder if it'll come true."

Issy said, "I don't know, but I'd like to know what you guys think about it. What do you think I should do?"

Abby joined in with, "I don't know if you'll be going to this guy or not. But I'd suggest that you weed all of the holey jammies out of your pj drawer, and I don't mean righteous either. I mean the ones with the holes in them."

They all laughed and suggested that she wait on the dream and see where it might go.

I planned to teach college art in studio & history. But I needed to home school our son and did short term missions instead, which benefited from my education. I write about the trips I take for our ministry.  View profile
