You Unnerve Me

A Poem for T

Etienne J. Sarfelli
I can't believe I saw you today

But there you were

Beautiful as ever

Smiling, happy

Unaware of the effect you have on me

And undoubtedly on other women everywhere

I figured you would be long gone by now

There wasn't anything to keep you here

But once again there you were

A painful reminder of what could have been

And what must never be

I will do my best to avoid you

Now that I know you are still around

That is, if its even possible to avoid you

In this small world in which we live

You unnerve me

And I don't think I can stand to be near you

For even the tiniest bit of time

If you do see me, however,

Please have the decency to avoid my eyes

They will betray all the feelings I still have for you

And they will do their best to draw you in

Like they did the last time...

You remember don't you?

That one night we spent together...

That one night that was but must never be again...
