You Were Here

Dr. Jamie Yvette
You were here -
as evidenced by the hands you held,
the hearts you healed,
the minds you opened
and the chapters you closed.

You were here-
building your legacy day by day,
dodging the spotlight and the accolades,
humbly utilizing the gifts you were given
and asking only for respect in return.

You were here-
lifting up the downtrodden,
tearing down barriers and defying the odds,
sometimes overlooked,
but always looking out for someone.

You were here-
never seeking fame or fortune,
yet finding wealth in the simplest of things.
While others searched for bells and whistles,
you basked in the splendor of serenity.

You were here-
redefining success on your own terms,
open to growth and newfound knowledge,
cheering on the fearless trailblazers
while finding the courage to go with the wind.

You were here-
not a moment of life lived in vain;
the world may never know your name,
but you are renowned among the angels
and your spirit of inspiration lingers.

You were here-
not a minute too soon,
or an hour too late.
Your life was perfectly orchestrated,
from the silent victories to the dark, lonely nights.

You were here-
and someone is giving thanks for you
and longing to hold you once more,
but grateful that the world is a better place
simply because you were here.

    Dr. Jamie,
This is so beautiful, poetic, and lyrical. I love the use of repetition in the poem. It pulled at my heart strings, because people can be angels on earth.

OMG I love this so much. It is so beautiful and I really click with this line, "sometimes overlooked, but always looking out for someone."
