10 Movies from Young Adult Books that I Just Can't Sit Through

Victoria Williams
I compiled a list of ten movies, based on young adult books, that I can not sit through. Some have bad acting, others stray so far from the book that you wouldn't even know it was based on one and some are just so cheesy it makes me cringe.

First on my list is The Golden Compass. The movie was released in 2007 and based on the novel Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. Not all of the movie was even in the same sequential order as the book.

Second is Confessions of a teenage drama queen. Released in 2004 by Disney Pictures was based on the novel by Sara Sugarman of the same name. I had to put this one on my list because the entire script and acting was so boring.

Even though I love Johnny Depp movies and most of Christina Ricci's Sleepy Hollow just is not good. I really don't like Ricci with that horrible blond hair and pale ghostly skin. Maybe if they would have given her another look it would be better. The movie was released in 1999 and based on the story "The Legend of Sleeping Hollow". The Disney cartoon version was better written than this movie.

Island of Dr Moreau was written by HG Wells in 1896. The third time this book was adapted to a movie was in 1996 and barely recovered the costs it took to create it. They should have stopped when the first problems arose on set.

My next choice was actually brought to my attention by a relative. Zoom the 2006 film starring Tim Allen is so lacking any interest its the most forgettable on the list. Jason Lethcoe's book "Amazing adventures from Zooms academy" should have been left forgotten in the silent pages of literature.

The next few are self explanatory. The only thing I have to say is what were they thinking while turning these beautiful works into disasters. Bridge to Terabithia, Girl Interrupted, Man in the Iron Mask and Gulliver's Travels. I truly recommend these to any book lover.

I left the worst for last Freaky Friday. I like most of the actors in this movie and it was really liked by my then nine year old daughter. I put this one on the list because it changed the story so much it only resembled the book by name.

This list was compiled solely on my opinion. I based it mainly on how true to the book storyline the movie was kept.
