Casual talk via LOS ANGELES, CA - The German did not spew out molten rocks but simple rhetoric in brevity saying, "I came to America to win and simply to win this Saturday night. I am the champion; I mean, I don't see potential difficulties in this fight."
"I respect Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and that means I have prepared my best for him," says Sebastian Zbik of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany during the media conference early this afternoon at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles, Califonia.
Zbik, 29, is the current World Boxing Council Champion with 30 wins, 0 loss and 0 draw. His last four fights went respectively in full twelve rounds of boxing, one won via a split decision and the three via a unanimous decision. His last four opponents have shown with combined 3 defeats and 97 wins, which means he fought considerably good quality oppositions in his own country, versus Chavez, Jr.'s carefully chosen opponents with combined 12 defeats and 95 wins (excluding his victory via a unanimous decision over Troy Rowland, which was changed to a no-contest, following a positive test for Furosemide, a banned diuretic).
Zbik says, "I am ready to fight twelve rounds of boxing."
But, Zbik, though known as quicker, feistier and stronger, would be the underdog 2-3 against Chavez, Jr. whose record marks 42 wins, 0 loss and 1 draw. Chavez, Jr. boasts 68.18% knockouts versus Zbik's 33.33%. Chavez, 25, feels very confident to make this Saturday night a historic one to mark him as the first Mexican fighter to win the WBC Middleweight Championship. "I will knock him out in one of the early rounds. I am ready to be the champion this Saturday," says Chavez, Jr.
Freddie Roach, his trainer, believe the Mexican fighter is ready and has what it takes to be a champion.
"The son of the legend (refering to Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr.) is prepared. He has worked very hard to get ready," says Roach.
Meanwhile, Zbik, who flew in Los Angeles weeks earlier from Germany to prepare for his world title defense against Chavez, Jr, says: "I am here to make history in this great city of Los Angeles." Both fighters are orthodox. But, Chavez, Jr., a towering Aztec at 6 feet, has half an inch height and a few centimeters reach advantages over red-faced Zbik.
Their final weigh-in, which is open to public, along with the undercards, will be held at the Star Plaza of Staples Center on June 3, this Friday, at 1:00 p.m., Pacific Time.
The first fight, this Saturday, will start at 4:05 p.m., Pacific Time, with the undercards. Other bouts will be officially televised via HBO starting at 7:00 p.m., Pacific Time, and 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
This said boxing event is promoted by Top Rank, Tecate, Zanfar, Universum Media Center, Staples Center, World Boxing Council and HBO.
