Young Frankenstein Provided an Embarrassing Moment

We have always been big movie fans in our house, but my husband and I are very particular about the movies our kids are allowed to watch.

A few years ago we did, however, allow our kids to watch one of our all-time favorites: Young Frankenstein.

Knowing there was a lot of innuendo in the movie that would go over the kids' head, we decided it would be okay for them to watch it.

They loved the movie and as expected, were completely oblivious to the meaning of many of the jokes.

No big deal, or so I thought.

Until one day while sitting in the waiting room at a doctor's office. My two youngest - daughters - ages five and seven, were with me, as well as my own mother. We were waiting for my youngest to see the ear, nose and throat specialist and the waiting room was full of people - most of them elderly.

While my girls played in a corner of the tiny, quiet waiting room I read a magazine and half-listened to the girls' activity.

Suddenly I heard my oldest daughter's voice elevate and she loudly shouted in her best imitation from Young Frankenstein "Would you like a roll in ze hay? Roll, roll, roll in ze hay!"

I was horrified and trying desperately to stifle giggles as I shushed her. My mother didn't say anything and thankfully, most of the elderly people in the waiting room were there for hearing problems!

One of my favorite movies! My British Lit class always wants to see that after we read Mary Shelley's work, of course, but even tho' it's NOT R, which I just assumed it was, I have a hard time justifying that!

I never have been able to figure out why kids do this to their parents. Its like some funny curse. When we are in public my kids always seem to blurt something out embarrassing that they overheard months ago. It just comes out of nowhere! Seems it has gotten to your kids, too! Funny!
