Young Jeezy The Recession: Early Album Review

Does Young Jeezy Deliver on the Recession?

The Reviewer
It has been nearly two years single Young Jeezy's last platinum-selling album, The Inspiration. Since then, Young Jeezy dropped a mix tape with his USDA clique and has been featured on guest spots including Usher's mega-hit, Love In This Club. Now, Jeezy is poised to release his third album, The Recession. Will The Recession be worth the wait?

The first single off The Recession is the Kanye West featured Put On. The track was produced by Drumma Boy. The song is not what you expect from Young Jeezy. The track is fairly solid yet just does not have the magic of previous Young Jeezy first singles.

The second single is Vacation. The song captures Jeezy's essence however with a much darker tone to it. The song will probably not work as a mainstream single however.

Nas teams with Young Jeezy on My President. The song is the most socially conscious track on the album. Young Jeezy talks about the upcoming Presidential election and the current state of the country. Nas as expected drops a strong verse.

Anthony Hamilton and Lil Boosie join Young Jeezy on Everything. The song is fairly catchy and interesting sonically as it sounds like nothing else out. Anthony Hamilton almost sounds foreign over the bouncy beat.

Young Jeezy is joined by Trey Songz on Takin' It There. The song is a typically strong R&B and hip hop collaboration. The song will definitely appeal to the female audience.

Crazy World is one of the stronger tracks on the album. The song features Young Jeezy in his energetic peak with a beat to match.

DJ Toomp produces The Recession (Intro). The production is very catchy and the song is much better than the typical intro track. The song sets up the album perfectly.

DJ Don Cannon produces Circulate. The song has that vintage 1970's feel that you expect from Cannon produced tracks.

The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League produces the bouncy Word Play. The track features a nice sample and strong verses from Jeezy.

Who Dat is produced by and features Shawty Redd. The song is more vintage Jeezy and it is a welcome addition to the album.

Young Jeezy does not reinvent the wheel on The Recession; however, he does change up his style. The mood on the album is noticeably darker and more ominous. Overall The Recession gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Young Jeezy make sure you pick up The Recession when it is available in stores on September 2nd.
