According to Thaindian News (via the Sun), young mom Lisanne Scott was at an Asda store when she saw Susan Boyle choking on a pineapple tart.
Lisanne Scott had recognized Susan Boyle but thought nothing of it until she noticed that the singer was shouting and clutching her throat. As the young mom explains, "Subo was very upset and was gasping for breath. A woman was punching her on the back but it wasn't hard enough. I left my shopping trolley and ran over to help. I gave her some hard thumps and that seemed to do the trick and clear her throat. I was just glad to help her. She is a lovely singer and a nice lady."

While prevention is best, there are still many ways to help a choking victim. If you see someone who is choking, it is important for someone to call 911 or a medical professional right away. Good Morning America has some helpful tutorials on rescue procedures. If a person is conscious. The speaker recommends a procedure where you place your hand on the chest and give five thumps between the shoulder blades. If the person goes unconscious, then begin CPR.
Of course, if a choking victim is under one-year-old, then don't perform the Heimlich maneuver. Instead, turn the baby upside down and give thumps between the shoulder blades. if the baby goes unconscious, begin CPR (chest pumps followed by mouth-to-mouth).

Wow! God put them together that day! Anyone else might have thought that, as a singer, Boyle was maybe just touching her throat because it was sore or something.
