Youngest College Football Quarterback Ever: David Sills, 13, of USC
Sills Verbally Commits to Lane Kiffin's Trojans
According to his personal coach Steve Clarkson via ESPN, David Sills has skills that no other 13 year old has. He's already six feet tall and is probably the youngest recruit ever to sign this early in college football. At age 13, this is virtually unheard of in any sport much less football where recruiting is intense and so many players have yet to develop.
Coaching
What has probably helped both David Sills and Lane Kiffin in making this decision to sign is the fact that Sills has a personal quarterbacks coach beyond his own school's coach. Steve Clarkson has mentored the current USC quarterback in Matt Barkley.
So while most young recruits generally may have a lot of pressure to live up to whatever hype they bring to themselves, this actually may be a good decision for the young man and his family. It certainly will ease the burden of his parents wondering where he will go to school or how they will pay for ever-rising tuition costs.
Staying Healthy
Hopefully Sills will be able to stay healthy and not push himself too much or too hard. He has already proven himself to a college coach already so hopefully he will relax and have fun during the remainder of his high school years. Now he has to learn the game, which hopefully Clarkson will be doing as he helps preen him into a USC Trojan.
David Sills doesn't even play his high school ball in California. He is in Delaware and still has four years of high school ball to go. What does his verbal commitment mean? He could still change his mind and then Lane Kiffin may look like a scape goat if Sills doesn't work out to his advantage. Still, piece of mind on both ends for 2015 is a good start. Now, both Sills and the Trojans have to stay healthy. In the midst of all the snow Delaware is experiencing this year, maybe the warm air of Los Angeles will be a welcome respite for David Sills as he looks to the future of his career.
