If you have problems with your shower that many people do, there are ways that you can fix it easily without a major overhaul of the shower stall. Keep in mind that you can always do a complete job in the future, but a quick fix can always help when you are having company or need repairs quickly.

Things to do before you begin
Take down the shower curtain and if it is washable, make sure that you clean it thoroughly. If you need to discard it and replace it, do so.

Remove all items in the shower that are removable. Wash, clean and polish them thoroughly. Remove and discard any empty containers and or small pieces of soap, etc.

Clean the walls and the bottom of the shower completely. Use a very good detergent to get as many stains off the walls and base as much as possible.

Replace plastic shelving and other items after they are thoroughly cleaned and dried.

Other tips
In some showers there are stains that are too hard to remove. Without a professional, you can still do things to cover these spots before company arrives.

Take artificial flowers and place them along the stains. You may want to use a special sticky tape to keep them in place, although they most likely will without any. This will make your shower look pretty and block out unwanted stains.

Use a special plastic fabric to fasten with nails into the walls of the shower to cover stains on the ceiling. These can be unsightly and a plastic fabric will allow the water to drain off it rather easily. There are plenty of great looking plastic fabrics. Great ones are found in the form of shower curtains that you can cut to the size you need. You can change these as you need to.

If you have a shower curtain that is ripped in certain places but you do not want to throw it away, you can consider this tip. Take some artificial flowers and stick them through the rips in the shower curtain. Use a good tape that is see through and secure them into place. You might also want to tape the side that is facing the water, too. Make it look pretty or more outdoorsy, depending on your taste. You can do this by choosing colors that will allow you to create the proper atmosphere.

Consider removing old and unsightly shower mats. You can use a towel instead when you shower. This will allow you to soak your feet, and then you can just wash the towel right away.

Your shower is a place that others usually don't see, so keep that in mind. Make sure that it looks great from the outside and if others will be using make every attempt to use these tips to keep it looking its best.

A total overhaul of a shower or bathroom can be very expensive, but you can do many things to make it look better in the meantime. Try out these tips and see what a difference they can make.
