Your Blackberry as a Window on Your Workplace Documents

Software Helps Blackberry Replace Laptop for Secure Remote Document Access

Dave Maddox
Even professionals who spend most of their time at the office find themselves with a Blackberry device to stay in contact as necessary according to the needs of their organization. Mobile professionals often come to rely on their Blackberry as a "mobile desktop" which they can turn to for the information they need when they're on the go. With the new version of WICKSoft's Mobile Documents solution, Blackberry users can review documents from their desktop PC in full fidelity, says the company. MS Word and Excel documents, PDF files and more can be reviewed anywhere a Blackberry can be used.

WICKSoft says that users can "securely view, email, fax, download and manage documents located in their office directly from their BlackBerry in real-time," and they say that they are also the company to turn to for speed of access to the documents and the image quality on the Blackberry. Not only can Blackberry users access required information, but they can provide it to customers, colleagues and others as necessary without delay.

On the road or in the air, the software can be a great help to travelers, lawyers, doctors, sales people, or emergency workers who need access to their documents wherever they are. With the speed and quality of the images, the potential uses will undoubtedly expand and new deployments will be envisioned for workforces which don't need or want an entire laptop to perform their tasks.

WICKSoft supports Windows and Novell environments in the current release, and a number of different document management systems (with a tightly integrated connection to ACOM), including Microsoft's SharePoint 2007. Providing structured access to materials will allow collaboration in the field and an organization's fixed locations, and a common access method for document retrieval.

With on-the-go access to documents, security is an issue. WICKSoft claims an "unparalleled" level of security. Mobile Documents has "two factor encryption, multi-layered policy-based security models, application-level access control, directory integration, and full Enterprise security management." In today's security-conscious IT environment, company policies usually require this kind of thorough security control for external access. Organizations which have privacy requirements may benefit from WICKSoft's security features as well, and eliminating the need to email or replicate the document ensures even greater document confidentiality.

WICKSoft's application is another step in freeing workers from their traditional PC-based workplace, whether it is their office or a laptop in their car, and their latest version of the software seeks to provide mobile professionals with high quality access to their information.
