Your Essence

Tussy
in old age
when life
has whittled
you down...

when joints
have failed
and skin has
wrinkled...

when capillaries
have hardened
and valves
have clogged...

when visions
grow dimmer
and you forget
to remember...

what will remain
is what you
truly are all along
your real essence...

in your senescence
will you drool
and babble
in raw greed
about all the money
you have made...

or will you tattle
and blurbs about
all the love
you have shared
with the poeple
who cared...

in old age
what will you be
a drooling greedy
or a caring somebody
