When and Where Are They?

It's getting to be close to that time of year again. The nights are long and the days are hotter. Stores are selling the sparklers, snakes, fountains, and snappers. 4th of July is just a few weeks away, yet fireworks displays will be happening sooner than that. You will soon be hearing the snap crackle, and pop of firecrackers, roman candles, and fireworks fill your neighborhood. In St. Clair County, Michigan, you have several options of where you want to see fireworks displays this year.

There aren't as many places to see fireworks in the Blue water area as there use to be when I was growing up. But, some cities still do this beautiful display of TNT for us. When I was growing up, every city around us had its own fireworks display it seems. With the rising costs of everything though, and the constant shortage of money every direction you look, its no wonder why many had to cut them out of the budget. Luckily, we are still able to enjoy fireworks displays without having to travel too far. The first ones of the season will be in Algonac on June 30th. This will coincide with the Algonac Lions Pickerel Tournament that will be going on June 28th - July 1st. The fireworks will take place on the water of Riverfront Park at 10 p.m. Also on June 30th, there will be a fireworks display in Port Huron at the Seaway Terminal. Fireworks start there at 9:45 p.m. The best place to see these is at Vantage Point, located on the boardwalk at the Seaway Terminal.

Next up is the spectacular display that will be occurring in the beautiful city of St. Clair. The fireworks will be on the actual birthday of out nation, July 4th. There will be a barge out on the St. Clair River from which the fireworks will be launched from. The show starts at dusk. Get there early though if you want a seat. People start plotting their spots as early as a day or two beforehand. The fireworks can be viewed from anywhere on the boardwalk where there isn't a tree in your way or from Palmer park. Many of the locals set up shop on their front lawn or roofs to see the fireworks. One thing to keep in mind, since the St. Clair fireworks are the only ones occurring on the 4th of July in the area, thousands of people flood the city. Once the fireworks are over, the city's street are gridlocked for up to two hours, so allow plenty of time to get home after the show.

I hope you enjoy the shows around the area. Remember to bring the OFF because the mosquitoes will be out in full force as usual this summer. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy yourselves.

Surprising that people want to go to 4th of July fireworks at times other than the 4th- doesn't that sort of dilute the experience?
