Your Guide to Getting Cheap Airsoft Guns and Gear

How to Buy Airsoft Items for Less Than You Expect!

Matthew Ewalt
While at first, airsoft can seem like a very expensive sport to get into. The expensive guns, camouflage, vests, magazines, bb's, and gear can seem like an overwhelming amount of items to buy, leading to your wallet or parents looking for an alternative. Many players on the field will have in excess of $600 worth of guns and gear, with some having even triple that. However, cheap airsoft guns and gear are all over the internet! If you are careful and wise with your money, however, and you are willing to settle for less than perfect name brand, you can find cheap airsoft gear and enjoy it for much less.

First of all, the gun, which you will base your entire load out around, needs to fit you and your playing style, work well, and be affordable. High quality, full metal rifles can quickly cost $250+, and can often be the most daunting purchases when you are new to the sport. However, cheaper airsoft brands, such as Echo-1, D-Boy's, and Cyma, produce rifles that will serve you well as you start airsoft. While they may not be as externally dazzling as you hoped, they often can shoot decently for their price.

Another option when buying a rifle is to buy used. Searching airsoft classified forums and boards can be a great way to snag a good deal on the high quality rifle you always wanted. If you have patience and can wait several weeks while watching classifieds, you will often find the cheap airsoft rifle you are looking for in good condition, and you can barter for the price you would like to pay. I would recommend buying used guns over buying lower quality, cheap airsoft rifles, as long as you are sure the person you are buying from is reliable.

The most important item you will buy is your goggles. While you can find cheap airsoft or paint ball masks at local retail stores, these may be prone to fogging more than expensive brands. I recommend installing some sort of fan device or applying anti-fog solution to the inside of a paint ball mask's goggles, leaving you with a cheap airsoft alternative to the expensive military grade goggles.

The next item you will need is a good set of fatigues. This is the camouflage jacket and pants you will wear to distinguish yourself from the other team at large events you attend. You can often find these at yard sales in your neighborhood or online classifieds for only $5-$10 dollars, which shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

If your rifle came with a high capacity magazine, you may not need to buy more magazines for your first war. You can easily play with a magazine that holds 250+ bb's for your first airsoft war, and you can get the feeling if you need more magazines or not. If you do, you can also find more cheap airsoft magazines at online classifieds for much cheaper than retail, and you can snag several of them for $5-$10 apiece. Another alternative is buying box sets of mags, which are about $55 for 5 new mags.

For these mags and other items you buy, you will need something you carry them in. A vest or chest rig with multiple magazine pouches is just the answer. Molle systems can quickly become costly when you attach new pouches to the outside, and other advanced vests are sold at top dollar. Instead, look for chest rigs, which require much less material to make, and can be found at much cheaper prices. Searching around, you can find many suitable cheap airsoft chest rigs online brand new between the $20 and $30 mark, which will hold your magazines and much more.

With whatever you buy, be sure to read plenty of reviews on the web about the product. If you have patience searching through online retailers and classifieds, you can search out the cheap airsoft deals, saving you plenty of money in the long run. Airsoft can be much less expensive if you shop around and buy used or cheap airsoft items, and you will be playing on the field in no time.
