Educational Opportunities
Community colleges are great place to earn an associate degree, take a course to help you with your degree at another school, or to take are of some courses before transferring to a four year school. Obviously an associate degree or working towards a bachelor's degree helps your career development. Community colleges also offer continuing education courses and certificate courses. A working adult could attain a certificate or improve a business skill through a community college. An added bonus to attending continuing education classes is the opportunity to network with people you might not have met otherwise.
Job Postings
Companies target community colleges to recruit students to fill positions. On a recent trip to Frederick Community College I was able to gather a few job postings for people I knew were looking for jobs. I was also able to pass along a business card of a recruiter. The job postings were posted on bulletin boards. I would advice checking the student center, academic halls of the type of jobs you are looking for, or the library.
Job Fairs
Community colleges often host job fairs which are open to the public. On my visit to Frederick Community College I was able to find the information on a job fair and pass the information on to my wife who is looking for a new job. Community colleges will also post information about other nearby career fairs as well.
Library
Most community colleges have a library. A library is a great place to look for additional job postings. A library will usually have a great collection of newspapers where you could browse the help wanted ads. A library will also have trade magazines which may have job openings listed. The library might be a good place to look for upcoming seminars or workshops as well.

Great work.. :o)
Great summary of some important information. So many people take resources like that for granted.
I came so close to taking a position at Santa Monica College this spring. I love my current job, but it was sure tempting! Great article, Mike!
Great advice Mike. The certificate alone is a great endorsement. Nice idea. I think if they same candidates apply but YOU have a certificate or are enrolled in college, you don't have to guess who will get the job!
