I am sure that this is not the way you had intended on starting off the new school year. Your parents and teachers are probably giving you a hard time, and may in fact be saying, you're just not applying yourself, or seem lazy.
I'm not trying to take sides here, but more than likely it's not your fault.
You don't see the relevance to the information you are learning, you may even find it quite boring, or just downright confusing. If that's the case, there is no wonder why you are not putting your every effort into succeeding in this subject.
You can become a more successful student starting right now, and continue to do so in the future. For FREE, no learning center, not gimmicks, now staying up late doing crash tests etc.
A simple free online learning assessment can have you on your way to a new path in education.
By adapting your natural learning style, to your current course load; I can show you a few ways to tweak your strategy which will have you understanding, and enjoying what you learn with meaning and relevance.
Learning styles are similar to intelligence; however it has more to do with your senses. It does not matter how intelligent you are, and there is no such thing as a one size fits all when it comes to learning, and understanding.
The most important thing is to know how it is that you learn best, how your brain works.
"So tell me already", you say," spit it out". Ok here it goes.
Just as there are different styles in which you decorate your home. There are different styles when it comes to learning as well.
Your learning style is the way in which is most effective for an individual when it comes to the process of learning, memorizing, understanding, and recalling information.
In fact not only do learning styles assist students but they assist the students instructors when it comes to creating lessons plans, and have a big affect on the instructors ability to provide the best support to his or her students based on their own teaching style as well. It is a known fact that instructors tend to teach in the way that they also learn.
Auditory learning occurs through hearing, for example a four year old may learn to read better if he or she is following along in their book, while listening to an audio CD of the same text he or she is reading.
Another example may be learning a foreign language. If attempting to learn simply from a text book, and memorization of vocabulary words, it will be beneficial to have these words recorded to better help with pronunciation, and memorization.
Approximately 25% of the population learns this way
Kinesthetic learning occurs by doing, and or touching, and interacting. For example in order to learn how to use a new software program I simply cannot watch someone do it, and repeat the steps, or read a book, or even listen to information about it. I have to do it. In fact I often set aside any other materials and just jump in, and then go to tutorials in a book if I am stuck on a question or tool I am trying to use.
Another example would be, in history and learning about a historical event. A kinesthetic learner would do exceedingly well by reenacting this event in depth as much as possible, other than simply reading a boring text book.
About 40& of the population learn this way
Visual learning occurs through images, charts, and graphs. For example when I was taking biology my teacher suggested that I split my noted in half, using one side to write my notes, and the other side to draw illustrations that went with my noted to help me see things more clearly. My illustrations also helped him to see they way I understood the explanations I was given. Two people can read one sentences and understand it differently.
About 30% of the population is visual learn this way.
It is also a young child's learning style that may affect his ability to follow a parent, or teacher's instructions.
Because based on the way that he or she may understand the instructions is the way he or she will respond, in addition to his or her personality.
So the next thing to do is to take a look at these free online assessments, and find out what your learning style is so that you may become the successful student you knew you were deep inside yourself.
If you are a concerned parent, learning about your child's learning style will also help you in understanding your child and the way he or she sees things, and understands them. It can help you increase your involvement in your child's education, so you may assist them in making their work more meaningful.
