It can happen to any dog owner. They take their dog outside to potty and the dog jerks the leash out of their owners hand and takes off. A dog who is tied out can slip their collar and get free. A dog who wants to go out can bolt out the door before the leash is hooked.
What is a pet owner to do when their dog takes off running? First call the dogs name. Whistle. Next, if the dog doesn't come back chase after them. Get in the car and look down each street. Don't waste anytime getting out there to look for your dog if it should run off.
When all else fails and you cannot locate your dog the first thing you can do is ask friends and neighbors. You can also put up a lost dog sign at your local stores. However, if your dog is not back in twenty-four hours it's a good chance that the dog catcher has it.
All towns, villages and cities have a local dog catcher. The job of the dog catcher is of course to catch the dogs. Dogs can pose a threat when wandering, and can also get themselves into a threatening situation. They could be dog napped, hit by a car, or lost to the point of not being able to find food which equals starvation.
Dog catchers go around the streets looking for stray dogs. When people see a dog that looks lost or stray they call the dog catcher to come and get it. When the dog catcher gets your dog there is only one way to get the dog back.
The way to get your pet dog back home once he or she has been caught by the dog catcher is to contact the dog catcher. You'll likely find the phone number in the phone book, and in the local newspaper in ads advertising dogs that have been picked up. You may want to check the ads for your dog.
When the dog catcher catches a dog they bring them to their place of business. Generally the dog will be bathed, the collar will be removed, and the dog will be checked for signs of illness. Dogs are fed well, and cared for during their stay. It is the dog catchers job to make sure that the dogs they catch are properly vaccinated and licensed.
When you call the dog catcher to inquire about your dog be sure to be specific as to the types, size, and markings of your dog. Describe the collar your dog was wearing. A dog catcher has so many dogs that they need specific information about your pet to identify it from the rest.
The only way to get your dog back is to pay the fee for "room and board". It is generally five dollars per day that the dog was held. This covers the cost of the dog food that was used and the expense of keeping the dog. The dog catcher will require you to provide proof of rabies shots, and proof that the dog is licensed. Once you have paid the fee and shown the proof you will be able to take your dog home.
Dogs don't always come back when called. Sometimes to get loose, not to be found by their owners but rather the dog catcher. Dog catchers are good people who keep dogs and people safe. If the dog catcher catches your dog they will take good care of it until you come to pay the fee and to provide the proof of a rabies shot and dog license. Thanks for reading and take care!
