Books
Everyone knows that libraries are full of books. There is no reason to spend money at Barnes & Noble when you can check out the book of your choice for free at your local library. If your library does not have a book you are looking for, speak with the librarian. Many libraries can get nearly any book you desire by borrowing from another library.
Newspapers and Magazines
Rather than subscribing to newspapers or magazines, read them at your local library. Most libraries offer all local newspapers, as well as national ones. Magazine selections are likely to include teen magazines, fashion magazines, investment magazines, gossip magazines, as well as many others.
Movies
Check out your local library for your movie rental needs. Movie stores may charge you as much as five dollars for one DVD rental for one day. Most libraries offer VHS and DVD rentals, for anywhere between one day to as long as two weeks, free of charge. Children will love checking out movies and you might be amazed at the amount of new releases your library has to offer.
Children's Programs
Almost all libraries offer some type of programs for children. These free programs are a great money-saving alternative to all the paid activities available to children. During the academic school year, programs are usually set for younger, preschool children. Children tend to love these programs. Parents, especially stay-at-home parents, love the social interaction the children receive during this time. During the summer break, when school is not in session, most libraries offer additional programs for school-aged children. While children are participating in the programs, parents can take advantage of the other things the library has to offer.
Computer and Internet Access
If you do not have regular access to a computer or internet, you can gain access at your library. Most libraries will offer patrons use of internet-equipped computers for one or two hour intervals. The usage is free, but you may have to pay a minimal charge if you wish to print materials.
If you have not already, visit your local library and get your own library card. This card is the key to many great things, all free of charge.

Post a CommentGreat tips! In Pennsylvania we also have a state-wide program for books and videos - if your library doesn't have it, they can borrow it from another library.
All very true! Libraries are also a great place to find test prep books and materials that you only need for a month or so. Nice article.
