What kinds of tools will I need to repair my printer?

An easy way solution to the specific tools you will need to repair your printer is a printer repair kit. You can find these kits online. If you do not want to buy a kit, there are some basic tools that you will need such as: screwdrivers in various sizes both Phillips and Flat-head, an aerosol air can to blow out excess ink and cleaning solution with cotton swabs for cleaning the rollers.

When should I call in a printer repair professional?

Harder problems such as an electronic malfunction or broken rollers will require someone with experience. You might find it worth the cost instead of losing time, patience and money on trying to fix the problem yourself.

What do the flashing symbols on my printer mean?

That question is almost impossible to answer. Different brands will have different symbols. The owner's manual will contain a list of the various symbols and their associated meanings. It is very important to not throw away the paperwork.

What does it mean to be a "certified repair technician"?

A certified repair technician is someone who has attended training provided by the printer manufacturer and has passed a series of tests to ensure his or her aptitude in repairing their printer. These certifications can also come from a vocational course. The certification should ensure that the repair specialist knows what they are doing but sometimes this is not the case. If you are trying to decide on whether or not to hire a repairman with a certificate versus one that does not, ask around or check for references.
