Don't expect much more than mediocre video quality from the motion tracking camera. As long as you are working out in a well-lighted room, the camera should pick up your image. You should also have at least six to eight feet between you and the TV so that the camera can catch your arms and legs when they are extended during exercise routines. Eight to ten feet is the best distance.
Next, the game will take you through the set up process, where you will enter in your year of birth, height and weight. From here, you can set up exactly where you want to tone up the most on your body. I had wanted to start off working on my middle, but because I had indicated that I lived a sedentary lifestyle, the program gave me a workout for my legs instead.
The exercise routine not only made my legs burn and ache, but at one point I had to sit down to catch my breath. You will get a solid workout, no matter what part of the body you are working on because you are always moving.
As you are moving, both the camera and Jenny McCarthy score how well you follow along with her routines. She gives plenty of encouraging remarks, such as "You're doing well. Keep going." That might be irritating to some, but it kept me going when my knees and thighs began to burn. The game will grade your performance at the end, giving you a percentage listing of the different workout categories that particular workout used. Then it will ask you to set up a calendar of workout routines to keep you committed.
I liked this game because I didn't have to bother with controllers. Seeing yourself on TV takes some getting used to, if you're camera shy. There are over 400 exercises, which is great for those who enjoy variety in their workout routines. Even better, you can use your own home equipment such as free weights or a balance ball to use in your workouts.
My only gripe about Your Shape is that I couldn't find a two-player option. Otherwise, I enjoyed the game and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get in shape and/or lose some weight.
