Baby's little hands are getting a workout, grabbing and raking items of interest (mine likes to grab a fistful of my hair- so I now tie it all back every morning). Some babies may even be able to pass items back and forth between each hand. This will provide endless entertainment for your little one. If he seems to be favoring one hand, don't assume it will stay that way. True left or right-handedness won't appear for a few years.
Once baby has mastered the grab and hold, he will undoubtedly put said object in his mouth. If he hasn't already, baby should begin teething very soon. On average, the first tooth appears at around six months, but a few of you may have a baby with several already. Remember, as soon as baby gets his teeth, you should begin brushing or wiping down his gums. There are brushes made that are specifically designed for infants and are available at your local baby store. Only use water, though- no toothpaste for baby yet!
Most babies can roll both ways now, but don't be alarmed if your baby isn't yet. Many are reaching such milestones later because of back sleeping. Try to get in a daily dose of tummy time, though, to strengthen baby's muscles. Some babies are sitting without support at six months, but are still toppling over. Use a Boppy or a regular pillow for help with practice sitting. Creeping may begin now and before you know it, your baby will be crawling!
Don't worry if your baby hasn't reached some of these milestones, as every baby develops at a different rate. Be sure to notice your child's budding social skills while you are out and about. Embrace him for his uniqueness, as he is now a little person with his own personality. His next round of vaccinations is coming up too, so make a note. While you are at the doctor's office for this month's well-baby visit, discuss any questions or concerns about your baby's development with your pediatrician.
