Your Teen and Volunteering for Community Services

Are you looking for something productive to keep your teen busy? What better way then to give back to the community by doing community services? Sit down and research different avenues with your teen for volunteering in your local community. This is a great recognition on your college resume, not to mention the satisfaction your teen will feel from providing these services.

Sit with your teen and help determine what type of community service they would be best at volunteering for. What problems are surrounding your community? The decision make for volunteering must be an enjoyable one for your teen, for full benefit and gratification.

Is your teen interested in the medical field? There are a lot of different services they could consider such as volunteering at the blood bank, a nursing home, or as working with children in the hospital by occupying their time while their family members are being cared for. Volunteering for helping at Senior citizen centers, walkathons or fundraising events.

Is your teen an animal lover? Volunteer some time at the local zoo, or orchestrating events for adoptions for the local humane society, assisting the elderly with caring for their pets, volunteering time at the animal shelter would also be great service to offer.

Does your teen enjoy working with children? Check with your local parks and recreation, volunteering services for daycare centers,recreational sports such as working at the local swimming area. Volunteering to work with mentally or physically challenged children or adults by going on field trips, or craft events, or after school programs.

Teaching the community, Is your child savvy around the Internet, and patient enough to teach senior citizens? Volunteering at a hospital, or soup kitchen are other services your teen could provide.

Aiding a teacher after school preparing for the next day, helping the school counselor with tasks, helping your local church, or library. Mentoring a younger child. Daycare centers, shelters, big brother / big sister, YMCA.

Doing a fundraiser for a specific cause. Contact the different schools in your area and inquire about ill children in the community that need fundraising, talk to the counselors at each school. I know of a high school with a teacher that does this throughout the school year. Each year he picks a child in the community and does fundraising goals for that child.

Your teen could rally up some friend for volunteering for these services. Find someone in your community in need of services and do bake sales, garage sales or car washes.
