Your Telephone Landline Bill : Do You Really Need It?

Jamie Brown
Do you really still need that telephone landline bill?

I still remember when the first cell phones started hitting the scene. I was in college, and many of my college friends who lived off campus had gotten rid of their landlines to save money and would only use their cell phones to stay in touch with the rest of the world. It seemed like a reasonable idea to me, yet it still took me a few more years before I finally let go of my own landline phone and started using my cell phone exclusively. Here are a few reasons why getting rid of your landline and using your cell phone for all calls is a great idea.

Get Rid of the Extra Bill

If you feel it's about time you started paring down some of your bills your phone service is a great place to start. If you know that you use your cell phone 90% of the time, and only use your landline a few times here and there, what's the point of paying $30, $40, $50 or more on the extra phone service? Just make sure that all of your friends and family have your cell phone number, and get rid of that unneeded landline bill. Put that extra money you'll save towards savings or paying down debt instead.

Can't Be Disconnected When Power Shorts

If you're even been on the phone when the power shorts, you know how frustrating it can be. You could be waiting on line for a customer service representative for half an hour, finally get her on the phone, and BAM! The power shorts. There goes your call. If you had been on your cell phone, you could have avoided that annoyance.

Better Call Blocking Features

The best part of having a cell phone is that you have a lot more options as far as call blocking. When someone calls who you don't want to hear from, you can just set a silent ringtone for that person or in some cases just instantly ignore the call and send the person to voicemail.

With a landline phone, there is no blocking anything! You are going to hear the phone ring whether you like it or not; you'll just have to ignore it. If you're really tired of hearing the phone ring you'll just have to shut the whole thing down.

So there are definitely a few advantages to getting rid of your landline bill and just going with your cell phone service for all calls. If you want to save some money, stay connected even the case of an outage, or block out unwanted calls, choose the cell phone service and drop that extra bill.

You can block calls and program a persons call not to ring on a landline.
