You're My Sugar, Momma

It had to happen sometime. One of the last remaining bastions of maleness has been breached by the feminists. The rich sugar daddies of legend are now being challenged by a new species: sugar mommas.

The idea is being promoted by a man (traitor). His logic is rather appealing. He argues that ugly - and often old - rich men have attracted young, gorgeous, money-­hungry women for cen­turies; it's now the women's turn. And make no mistake. There are a lot of mature rich and bored widows and divorcees - not to mention married women - out there who are craving a little action. Until recently their options were rather limited. What could they do - place an ad in the local paper soliciting young men with hot bods?

It now turns out that they can - well, almost. An enterprising New York entrepreneur, Jeremy Abelson, has organized a speed-dating event, bringing together 20 "sugar mamas" and 20 "boy toys" vetted by an elite New York match-maker. The eligibility criteria are rather stringent, though. To qualify, applicants must be over 35, earn at least $500,000 a year or have a minimum of $4 million in liquid assets, entrusted as­sets or divorce settlement. Makes sense, I suppose. Sugar mommas, by definition, need to be loaded.

The lucky 20 apparently had a pretty good time. One 44 year-old fashion designer and former model said, "I find younger guys will usually be totally into you while older guys will be looking over your shoulder at a younger woman." Are we ageing lotharios really that bad? And what did the toy boys feel about it? According to Abelson, "I think for men it is an incredible fantasy (to be with an older woman). Older women are more experi­enced and they know what they want." You said it, buster.
