Yousendit, Rapidshare, Sendspace: Which Temporary Host Site is for You?

Chelsi
If you find yourself needing to transfer a file for work or otherwise, you have probably heard of the various websites that temporarily host these files. The problem lies in deciding which website is best for your file uploading needs. I have looked into three well known file transferring websites. Each one offers something different, but the one you choose to use should cater to your needs for uploading your files.

1. www.yousendit.com

Yousendit.com is probably the most well known file transferring website. There is an option to sign up for a basic free account, and also an option to upgrade for a small price. However, you can still upload a file if you do not wish to create an account with Yousendit.com. If this is what you choose, you have the following benefits: you can upload files as large as 100MB, your file will last for seven days and then the link will expire and no longer be available, you are allowed 1GB of bandwidth per file, and each file can be downloaded up to one hundred times. If you are just needing to upload a file for a short time, Yousendit.com is ideal.

2. www.rapidshare.com

Rapidshare.com is a step above Yousendit.com in security. In order to download a file that's been uploaded through Rapidshare.com, you must enter a code shown in a box to ensure that you are a human. As a person who uploads one file - or many files - this ensures that internet bots cannot download your uploaded files. Also with Rapidshare.com, the file is only deleted ninety days after the last download, and it offers unlimited downloads. You can delete your file any time before the ninety days past the last download is up, however.

3. www.sendspace.com

A free upload using Sendspace.com offers more than a free upload from both Yousendit.com and Rapidshare.com. A free Sendspace.com upload comes with unlimited uploads, unlimited downloads per file, safe and private file sharing (links cannot be searched or used by anyone other than those given the direct link), and files up to 300MB in size may be uploaded. This is ideal for files with a long lasting lifespan. If you would like your file to be available in several months time, this is a great option.

As you can see from just these three websites, you have options as to where to upload and transfer your files. The best way to find which one suits you is to try each of them out and fine the one that works best with your needs. Whether it is short-lived links, large file sizes, or easy navigation of the website - there is something out there for everyone.
