Youth Baseball Leagues in Hendricks County, Indiana

Kids Have Plenty of Options to PLAY BALL!

Avon Junior Athletic League

AJAA entered Little League Indiana District 8 in January of 2011, joining Brownsburg, Danville, Plainfield, and Tri-West in the district. AJAA offers tee ball for 5-year-olds all the way up to Big League Baseball for 17- and 18-year-olds. Registration fees range from $70.00 to $105.00. April 30 is the age cut-off date.

Games are played on the fields at CR 625 E. and CR 100 S. Practices begin April 4, with Opening Day for 7- to 12-year-olds scheduled for April 23, while 5- and 6-year-olds get started on May 7. Most league tournaments begin on Family Day on June 11, with the season wrapping up on June 25.

Brownsburg Little League

Brownsburg Little League has had a lot of success on the big stage in recent years, going to the Little League World Series in 1999 and 2001, and winning the Indiana State Championship four years in a row from 1999 to 2002.

Playing its games at Arbuckle Acres Park, Brownsburg offers baseball for kids aged 5 years and up. May 1 is the age cut-off date. Player registration and parent volunteer application forms are available on the league's website. Registration fees are $150.00 per player.

Practice has already begun for 9- to 12-year-olds, and practice set to begin for 5- to 8-year-olds on April 4. Opening Day is April 9 and April 23, respectively.

Cascade Youth League

Serving kids from Amo, Belleville, Clayton, Coatesville, Hazelwood, and Stilesville, the Cascade Youth League offers tee ball as well as youth baseball teams for 6U, 8U, 10U (Minors), and 12U (Majors). May 1 is the age cut-off date.

Registration is $35.00 for tee ball, $45.00 for 6U and 8U, and $55.00 for Minors and Majors. A registration form is available on the league's website.

Practices started March 20, with an all-day Jamboree scheduled for April 9 in Amo. Games begin the following Saturday, April 16.

Danville Little League

Danville Little League offers four divisions for kids aged 7 to 14. The Rookie League is for ages 7 and 8, the Minor League teaches kids from ages 9 to 10, the Major League is for ages 11 and 12, and Junior League is available for kids who are 13 or 14. April 30 is the age cut-off date.

Registration for Danville Little League is $90.00, and registration forms and volunteer applications are available on the league's website.

Practices can begin March 26, and the season begins April 23 with a big festival at Ellis Park. Throughout the regular season, Danville teams also travel to play against teams from Tri-West Little League. The regular season ends June 11, with the tournament starting the next day.

Championship games are June 18, and the season wraps up that day with a home run derby, closing ceremonies, and a party at the park's pool.

Plainfield Optimist Little League

Plainfield teams take the field at Hummel Park on Center Street. The Minor League is made up of 9- and 10-year-olds, while the Majors are for 11- and 12-year-olds. The age cut-off date is April 30.

Registration is $90.00 per player. Forms for player registration and parent volunteer opportunities are available on the league's website.

Practice has already begun in Plainfield, with the Grand Opening Ceremony, team pictures, and the regular season scheduled to start on April 9.

For younger kids, there is Plainfield Pee Wee Baseball. Pee Wee is for kids ages 5 through 8, as of the May 1 cut-off date. Registration is $90.00 per player.

Practice begins April 4, with games slated to begin May 2. The board members' names and e-mail addresses are available on-line.

Tri-West Little League

Tri-West Little League serves kids who attend school in the North West Hendricks School Corporation. Tee ball is offered for 4- and 5-year-olds, with increasing divisions every two years of age.

Registration fees vary from $35.00 for tee ball to $100.00 for junior league (13- to 14-year-olds). The age cut-off date is April 30. Player registration and parent volunteer forms are available on the league's website.

The parade and Opening Day festivities are April 16.

Tee ball teams play at Scamahorn Park in Pittsboro, while Rookies and Pee Wee play at the Lions Club fields in Lizton. Minor and Major Leaguers play at Scott Park in Pittsboro. Tri-West teams also travel to play against Danville Little League teams.

YMCA

Youth baseball is also offered through the local YMCA. Currently, the West District YMCA office at 7811 W. Morris Street in Indianapolis serves Hendricks County, but keep your eyes peeled for the opening of the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA in the summer of 2011.

That facility is located at 301 Satori Parkway in Avon, right off Highway 36 (Rockville Road). They have a Facebook page that is updated regularly with programs offered and other goings-on.

The Y offers tee ball and baseball for kids from ages 3 to 12. The Y's website isn't updated with dates or registration information yet, but I coached for the Y last summer, and I paid $56.00 for registration of one child in mid-May. Practices began in early June, with games starting in late June and ending in mid-August.
