However with a little patience, communication in English should be OK as they do have a lot of experience with international travelers. I have read some online reviews describing the safety of the Youth Hostels in Mirador Mansion as "sketchy", but I would have to say that simply is not true. The Mirador Mansion & it's Youth Hostels are a safe and secure, albeit interesting, place to stay and this is from a woman who traveled to Hong Kong alone and spent 3 nights in 2 Youth Hostels in the Mirador Mansion.. Whomever is online writing that the Mirador Mansion is "sketchy", is an inexperienced traveler probably from a small town in Canada, or they are simply referring to the elevator situation, which quite frankly takes forever and set off my claustrophobic anxiety.

Meaning they are very small in size and minimalist in amenities.

When making a reservation with a Youth Hostel or Guest House on this list you should know that private rooms without windows are less expensive, but in my personal experience can be mentally taxing & prison cell like, and private rooms with shared bathroom facilities are even less expensive. If you want a room with a window, a little more expensive, you should specify that when making your reservation. a deluxe room is often a room that has been recently redone and is nicer than the rest, if you desire a deluxe room this will cost a little more and you should request this when making your reservation. Many Youth Hostels & Guest Houses on this list also offer, rooms for 4 people and shared rooms in the traditional bunk house Youth Hostel style for travelers on a shoestring budget. I paid, at a Youth Hostel, for a private room / private bathroom, with no window, $23-35 US dollars.
