Youthful Hands: Help Slow Signs of Hand Aging

Anti-aging Remedies for Hands

Michy Lynn
I've often noticed, particularly with women, that there are two things on our bodies that show age faster than anything else: hands and neck. I don't know for sure why the neck shows age faster than even the face, but it does. However, it's not strange that hands show age faster than most parts of the body. After all, we use our hands for nearly everything we do!

If you use lotions, creams, anti-aging products and more on your face to reduce signs of aging, what can you do to slow the signs of aging for your hands? Well, you could always buy expensive hand creams and anti-aging hand lotions, but there is a better way, and it's much cheaper too!

Keep Hands Supple and Soft

Hot Oil Hand Treatment

Hot oil treatments aren't just good for your hair; they are also great for your hands. You don't have to buy expensive oil treatments though, for your hands or your hair. Olive oil is the best for your body and skin. Simply heat some virgin olive oil in the microwave to a lukewarm temperature and soak your fingers and hands in it for 3-5 minutes. When finished, instead of washing it off completely, simply massage the oil into the skin and towel the oil off.

Paraffin Wax Hand Treatment

When my sister purchased a paraffin wax machine, I was doubtful, but after using it just once, I had to go out and get myself one too. Hands feel so wonderful after soaking them in the melted paraffin wax. You can let the wax harden on your hands and peel it off and you don't even have to rinse your hands afterward. Your skin will be soft and your hands will be age resistant!

Petroleum Jelly Hand Treatment

This anti-aging hand treatment might make you feel a little silly, but it works. Using petroleum jelly, coat your hands with it. Put plastic bags over your hands, and then have someone help you put sock on over your hands. Sleep with your hands covered to soften and make supple hands. You can use this same treatment on your feet as well.

Facial Scrubs for Hand Treatment

Sometimes, hands will get dry and cracked around the bends of the knuckles and creases in the palm and fingers. To slough off dry skin from the hands before doing any of these treatments, you can use any ordinary facial scrubber or facial scrub cosmetics on your hands too. Facial scrubs are more delicate for your face skin than body scrubs are, protecting your hands from damage while helping slow the aging process of hands.
Facial Cold Creams and Moisturizers for Hand Treatment

Anything used to slow the signs of aging on the face can also be used to slow the signs of aging on the hands. Cold creams and facial moisturizers can make excellent hand creams too.

Anti-aging and Skin Lightening Creams

If liver spots, freckles or dark spots show up on your skin, you can use over-the-counter products like liver and kidney spot faders, freckle reducers, or citrus juices (like lemon and lime) to lighten and reduce the appearance of age spots on the hands.

Following these steps or using them as a guideline for creating your own anti-aging hand treatment can keep your hands looking as youthful as the rest of your body and face, or perhaps even younger!

Great tips for keeping hands looking young. At age 40, my hands are showing their age. I'm going to try the olive oil treatment for certain. :)

Michael, I wouldn't try the plastic bag over the face for slowing the signs of aging. I'm thinking that one would permanently keep you young (you'd die!)... but yes, similar things will help reduce some aging signs on you face. Drinking lots of water should have been added to this list - it makes a huge difference!

Are these products and treatments effective for the face and other parts of the body (elbows, knees, et al.)?
