Susan Boyle, 47-year-old contestant on "Britain's Got Talent," appeared on the CBS Early Show today, April 16th, 2009, live via satellite from Blackburn, Scotland.

"You have to take yourself seriously," Boyle said of the reality show performance, "so what I did was, I focused on the song,"

Challenged by the Early Show to "sing for America" on live television this morning, Boyle performed an a cappella version of the song for which she is known, I Dreamed a Dream, from the Broadway hit Les Misérables.

The "Britain's Got Talent" performance received rave reviews from the judges, as well as over 12,336,267 views to date on YouTube.

The YouTube "singing sensation" tells CBS Early Show that the her newfound notoriety "hasn't really sunk in yet."

Boyle even caught the attention of Tony Award Winner Patti LuPone, a member of the Original London Cast of Les Misérables.

LuPone first sang I Dreamed a Dream while playing Fantine in Les Misérables during 1985 in London's West End. She called the CBS Early Show this morning from Birmingham, Michigan to talk with Boyle, CBS and America.

"Susan, you've got pluck, girl," said LuPone, who also played Eva Péron in the 1979 musical Evita.

"My husband and I watched it and I started to cry," the Tony Award-Winning actress and singer said of Susan Boyle's Britain's Got Talent performance, which she watched on YouTube.

"From what I could tell on YouTube, it was pretty great on YouTube, so I can imagine what it was like live on, you know, British TV, there, I mean ... you can't really tell a whole lot on YouTube, but it was pretty powerful on YouTube," LuPone asserted, wishing the contestant luck on the popular British television show.

Just before LuPone called in, the CBS Newsmagazine challenged Boyle to sing live via satellite "early in the morning," which she did.

"The ones who made fun of me are now nice to me," said the Britain's Got Talent contestant.

Patti LuPone says Boyle has "so much courage" and wishes her luck.
