Youtube Singing Sensations: Who Made it Big?

Talents Who Racked Up Not Only Youtube View Counts but Also Media Appearances and Record Sales.

Greg Preez
Who would have thought that some of the best talents in the current times could only be found in a video-hosting website called "Youtube?" Tons of interesting clips are being posted by users everyday on Youtube. Some videos are informative. Most are "adulterated" informative. Many are just plain interesting.

And so we are about to name these successful singing talents who probably got rave reviews by the very sharp, very brilliant, and very anonymous critiques (the people who spare their time posting comments on videos.) And who managed to expand their artistic horizons into some serious money-making gigs, rather than just allowing strangers to watch and scrutinize them, singing in their bedroom on their webcams, for free.

And here is where the list starts.

Esmee Denters

Racking up over 100,000,000 views on Youtube, this 1988-born girl was discovered when she was 18-years old, singing some pop music in front of her web cam on minus one. The most popular videos that catapulted her into Youtube sensation are her renditions of songs by Desitny's Child, Chris Brown, Rihanna, and Aaliyah.

Her popularity filtered its way from Youtube to local television shows in her home country, the Netherlands, and eventually worked its way to international appearances, including one on Oprah where she was interviewed about her discovery in Youtube.

Recently, Esmee has been signed by Justin Timberlake's record and is scheduled to release an album on March of 2009.

Charice

A 1992-born girl from a small town in the Philippines, Charice became popular in Youtube out of some random video posting, of her singing in a local talent show, by a stranger. A talent show where Charice, in her 12 years of age, was flawlessly belting out the biggest song imaginable and not showing traces of innocence in her age. Believe it or not, she lost the show.

Yet, it is inevitable for this wonder kid to rise to fame as her posted video multiplied like wildfire. Thereafter, she was invited to guest on shows, like Ellen Degeneres and Oprah, several times. At 16, she has performed duets with world renowned singers such as Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion, and has been lined-up along with Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Alicia Keys and many more well-respected musicians in the land. Something no Youtube star has accomplished, even more, not regularly fulfilled by someone her age.

Currently, she is part of an album called Hitman: David Foster and Friends by an esteemed composer/songwriter David Foster. It is rumored that she is releasing an album under David Foster's management.

Marie Digby

Along with the success of Rihanna's hit "Umbrella" is the coattailed rendition of Marie Digby as posted in Youtube. This version of her song made Marie so famous that it somehow seemed like she owned it. (Not the song, coz' Umbrella has Rihanna written allover it, but the rendition of it). "Umbrella" by Marie Digby was played on radio and television shows.

Her fame in Youtube eventually became overwhelming as subscribers in her personal channel started to pile up.

Now known as the girl with the guitar, Marie released an album under Hollywood Records in 2008 with her single "Say it Again", which successfully topped the charts.

Arnel Pineda

In the 80s, Journey dominated the world of music with their compositions in the genre of rock. The very successful rock band was lead by its singer, Steve Perry. In a sudden turnout of events in the 90s, Steve Perry left the band without prior notice. It has been a devastating loss for the music industry. But little did we know it was not the end for the band Journey.

In an effort to regroup and rebuild, Neal Schon of Journey campaigned for the replacement of the spot which was left by Steve. In one faithful night, Neal decided to look into Youtube for some talent who's worthy to be Steve's replacement. And so he did. Not only did he found the replacement, but he found the best singer that has Journey written allover his destiny. He is said to be the perfect lead of the band. Neal found him in a clip while he's singing with the band "The Zoo". His name is Arnel Pineda.

Arnel, along with Journey released the album "Revelation" on June 3 2008. And the outpouring support to the band has been evident as "Revelation" debuted in no. 5 of the Billboard Top 200 album charts.

Definitely, Youtube has been a hub for discovering talents worth reckoning. And these four promising artists are just the pioneers. And since it has been a major success for these artists, the list will definitely continue.
