Youtubers: Take Them with a Grain of Salt

LL
Imagine my surprise when I find out that one of my favorite straight-talking Youtubers is a former porn star and alleged swindler. I'm talking about Jia from the Jiatv channel on Youtube. Peruse other Youtube channels such as luuuvandhearts, MaliciousActs, and jiapaythemoneyback and you will be confronted with quite a different side of Jia, or according to her friends, her name is Brandy (Kina Kara, if you want to know the porn name). There's something about watching a person completely degrade themselves that makes me lose respect for them. The fact that, according to several Youtube pages, she connived several people out of their money doesn't sit too well with me either.

Now, some people may say the past is the past and people change. I get it. People do what they want with their lives. However, after watching her former videos and seeing her drunk and saying what I'll paraphrase kindly as "I got up and my vagina fell out", just makes me think this girl has problems. She is very judgmental of people...and yet she was a porn star. Like the bible says, those without sin can cast the first stone. She definitely ain't without sin.

So what this all comes down to is: Take these youtubers with a grain of salt. Youtube creates this warm and cozy fantasy world where people can establish an "intimate" relationship with someone they barely know. When I listen to a person's struggles and worries, I always feel like I'm being let into a deeper side of that person. But I guess that isn't necessarily so. How do I know Jia isn't simply using her internet fans to gain more fame? How can I trust her opinion with all these accusations swarming around her? I don't know. So I guess I am sort of disillusioned about the whole of Youtube.

Don't get me wrong, though. I don't go onto a site like Youtube and believe everything I see. However, I definitely don't expect that these so-called intellectuals would have such a dark past. This whole "Jia" situation really makes me think twice about who I watch on Youtube. In all fairness, she does say "KK in the flesh" on her channel, but with all the nicknames people make for themselves nowadays, why would I think twice about that? Anyway, I'll be on the lookout for her videos and I'll wait for her to prove her accusers wrong, but I definitely can't look at her the same anymore.
