Yu-Gi-Oh's Current Format, the Top 5 Dominating Deck Types

Look Out for These at Major Events

After the release of the newest Yu-Gi-Oh set Strike of Neos we saw in increased amount of playable deck types. Adding to this variety were the releases of the new duelist packs and Structure deck number 10, Machine Revolt. With so many new cards coming into play at once, we have seen an explosion of new deck arch types enter the meta. After a few regional events and multiple high level tournaments the new meta game has been established. The following decks are those that dominate the current format.

Bazoo mixed with Card Trooper - This deck has recently emerged as a dominate deck type. This deck uses cards like Bazoo to destroy their own graveyard to up his attack and cause massive damage. Card Trooper can put more cards into the graveyard to boost Bazoo's attack while upping his own, and Skull lair is the ultimate monster removal with a deck like this. Also with so many cards in the graveyard you can use Call of the Haunted, and Premature Burial to bring any discarded monster back to the field. Also Magical Merchant finds a nice spot here, allowing massive cards to build up in the graveyard, while putting a spell card into your hand.

Zombies - Of course this deck has been around for a long time, and shows no sign of going away. A few new spell cards can be placed into this deck to update it and bring an old friend into a new environment, but the basic structure is the same. Royal Keeper is a strong attacker and can be a surprise on defense. Spirit Reaper is always a must with this deck and cards like Book of Life can bring back powerful Zombie monsters form your graveyard. All in all this deck is a solid build and easy to play.

Counter Traps and Fairies - We saw the potential with this deck type during the Enemy of Justice set, and with new counter trap cards from Strike of Neos our Fairy friends are now very playable. I would say that only very skilled players would attempt to use such a deck, but when used right it can be devastating. Majestic Mech Goryu is so powerful, and easy to summon, and Miraculous Decent is a must with this deck calling back fairies that have been removed from play, and the two Heralds of Light, Purple and Green, can add some much needed tech to this strong deck type.

Dark World - We all knew it was coming, and now with tech monsters like Kahkii and Gren Dark world is all too playable. Strong versions of this deck have been popping up everywhere, and with most of the cards needed to make it run right being only rare or lower everyone should be on the lookout for this deck. The special summoning capabilities with monsters like Goldd and Sillva is amazing, so field presence is a big plus with this deck.

Gadgets - These little Green Yellow and Red gear like creatures have been dumped into many decks and prove to be very useful. Many cards pertain to these gadgets and get powerups according to which color was used as a sacrifice. Gadgets are also great monsters for deck thinning so they can be deadly, getting the cards you need in a deck much faster. Since their release in the Machine Revolt starter deck many versions of the Gadget decks have come to light, but just in recent weeks have we seen an entire arch type of deck devoted to these little guys.

So there you have it, the top five deck types that are dominant in the meta today. Other decks do make appearances like Warriors and Diamond Dude Turbo run decks but none really stand up to those listed above. As time goes on we may see a change or shift towards other deck types, possibly the Elemental Hero's may become a threat because of newer support cards that have come out. Also Warrior themed decks running D.D Assailants and Warrior Ladies along with Exiled Force are always a good staple and see lots of play. The variety is picking up in this game, and who knows what types of decks we will see spawn off in the future, but for now watch out for these top five.
