Yuba Community College Guide

If you are living in the Yuba County area in California you may find your selection in community colleges small, well that's because it is. There are several community colleges in the surrounding area if you don't mind driving, but in the actual area there is Yuba community college. I would like to discuss Yuba community college in this article.

Yuba community college is located on 2088 North Beale Road in Marysville, CA. Yuba colleges offer classes online, television, on Beale Air Force base (for those with access) and at the campus. They offer many programs to get your associated degree and to also take classes to setup for your bachelor's if you plan on transferring to a four year university. What sort of programs do they offer? There programs are divided into Business and Technology, Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, Language Arts, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Health Occupations, and Social Sciences. Some of the programs they offer for an associated in are Human Services, Accounting, History, Early Childhood Education, Philosophy, General Business, Management, Mass Communications, and lots more. For a more complete list of all the areas you can attain an associated degree in stop by the campus to pick up a course book or visit the college's website (link provided at the bottom of this article).

Students can expect to pay a $20 enrollment fee per unit for state residents; for nonresident expect $195 per unit. Students are also required to pay $6 per semester for health services fee and $40 per semester for a parking pass ($20 for summer session). There is a room and board fee of $2,394; however most people just commute to the community college. Also, do not forget about the cost of books which will depend on what classes the student plans on taking. The bookstore offers new and used books. While these prices may seem overwhelming to those on a low budget they shouldn't scare you off. Financial aid is available for those who apply and many students will be eligible for what is known as the BOGW waiver (Board of Governor's Waiver Program). If you qualify for the waiver all your class fees will be waiver and your parking pass will cost $20 instead of $40; students will still be required to pay full book expenses. Additional finical aid may be available from Pell grants, scholarships, and student loans. To see if you are eligible students must fill out there FASA each semester and make sure the finical aid office has a copy of your FASA. Also, if you are a Beale Air Force military spouse the education office on base may be able to grant you a scholarship for your semester books depending on your income (contact the Susan at the education office for more information).

To make your college experience more complete the college also offers daycare services for parents who have children 12 months-5 years old and wish to attend classes (there is a waiting list call (530) 749-3808 for more information), CalWORKs which is a service that provides services (such as counseling, job placement, work-studies, and child care-call (530)634-7773 for more information) to students who are on TANF, college success center, contracted training, counseling (to offer course/degree guidance), dining facilities, library, job placement, disabled students programs and services, and even more services. For a complete list of services refer to the college district book or the website.

The whole Yuba Community College District is made up of Yuba College (location above), Woodland Community College (2300 East Gibson Road, Woodland, CA), Clear Lake Campus (15880 Dam Road Ext., Clearlake, CA), and outreach operations on Beale A.F.B (Education Office 17849 16th Street) and Colusa County one stop partnership (146 market street, Colusa, Ca).

I have been to a four year university which I dropped out of for personal reasons. I decided to go back to school about a year or so ago and Yuba community college is where I decided to go. My decision to attend this college was dependant on location and affordability. I have enjoyed my campus experience so far. I am enrolled in the Human Services degree and have enjoyed the classes so far. The material is interesting and sometimes challenging. I enjoy the smaller classrooms, the professor's willingness to help students, and all the ways available to take classes, not to mention the students are of all ages so people don't need to fill award being surrounded by students who recently graduated from high school because students at Yuba community college are of all ages.

If you are interested in attending Yuba community college file an application for admissions via the internet or by stopping by the campus. File all transcripts (from high school or previous colleges) and complete the District Placement Examination.
