Yuengling Brewery Tour Review

Becky D
Yuengling Brewery offers brewery tours at their two locations in Pottsville, PA and Tampa, FL. On Monday through Friday, tours are offered in Tampa at 10AM and 1PM and they are given in Pottsville at 10AM and 1:30PM. The Pottsville location is also open on Saturdays from April to December and tours are available at 11AM, 12PM, and 1PM. Saturdays are especially busy so if you want to make sure you get a spot on a tour you should get there early. Also, keep in mind that no beer is actually produced on Saturdays.

The rest of this article applies to the Pottsville location since that is the only one I have visited. There is a lot of interested historical information given during the tour. As America's oldest brewery, Yuengling has survived for many years and through the Prohibition period. The woman that gave our tour seemed very knowledgeable about the history and was able to answer questions from the crowd well.

After hearing about the history, the tour takes you through the brew factory and bottling plant. A lot of beer is produced here so it is done in large tanks and with automatic machinery. If you have seen the inside of one brewery this size, you have seen them all. A neat part of the tour was when they took us through the underground caves where they store the beer to keep it cool before it goes into refrigeration. The caves were closed to tours for awhile but are now open once again

At the end of the tour, you will get to choose a free eight ounce sample of whichever Yuengling beer you would like to try. Another visitor who had been there before told me they usually give two samples but our tour group was too large and only got one.

Keep in mind that you must wear closed shoes on the tour and that there are many steps which means the brewery not handicap accessible. If you come with flip flops, you'll get to borrow a pair of their shoes that who knows how many strangers feet have been in.

The tour is free but they will lead you through the gift shop at the end. You of course are not required to buy anything but they do have a reasonably priced selection of whatever you may want with the Yuengling logo on it.

Overall, this is an informative and interest tour. It is one of the better brewery tours that I have experienced.
