Yuma Lakes RV Park and Resort in Yuma, Arizona

Colorado River Adventures Park System

Kathy Anderson
The last RV resort we stayed at on our winter trek in 2008 was in Yuma called Yuma Lakes CRA RV Resort. We arrived December 30, 2008 and were just in time for a fabulous New Years Eve party in the club house.

Yuma Lakes is a Colorado River Adventures Park located right in Yuma, AZ. The resort is just 15 minutes from the Mexican border. The lake is a large 12 acre stocked fishing lake. There's a heated pool and jacuzzi overlooking it's championship shuffleboard facility. I got in on a couple shuffleboard tournaments and had a great time. I found the people very friendly.

The park itself is very large with three large clubhouse facilities and has lots of mature trees at many of the RV sites. We would go for walks almost everyday and didn't leave the park but still got in a good hour of walking. There's 544 full hook-up sites; no dry or partial hook-up sites. The maximum RV length if 40 feet. Electricity is 30/50 amps with water and sewer at some sites but there's a dump station. There are no rental facilities.

We really liked this park and stayed as long as we could. We made trips to Mexico where we had lunch and watched the spray paint artists on the streets. Close by is the Yuma Territorial Prison which is a must see. It's so interesting and you're able to walk among the ruins of the old prison. Very nice museum. There's a huge flea market on the main road which we seemed to not be able to stay away from. We did some Christmas shopping there, had lunch a few times, ice cream and enjoyed the fun. We were lucky the weather was perfect the whole time we were there. No rain and light jacket temperatures.

New Years brought us a wonderful feast of food and great entertainment in the clubhouse. The people there were exceptionally friendly. There's so much to do in the clubhouse with scheduled activities like shuffleboard, swimming, exercise classes, dances, bingo, pot lucks, crafts, sewing, breakfast and dinners six days a week. Don't forget off-site, there's fishing, golfing, boating, shopping, and dance classes. On site you'll find laundry facilities, 6 pool tables, miniature gold and putting green along with a bocce ball court. I used the laundry facilities twice. There are at least and I heard a third laundry facility. The main one is next to the clubhouse with about 5 or 6 washers and dryers. The smaller one that was near our site had two washers and dryers. Both have nice folding tables. You seem to meet some really nice people when you use the laundry facility.

Quiet time is the usual of 10pm to 8am with no off-road vehicles to annoy you. There's the usual 7 days out between visits to any CRA park. To allow more members an opportunity to make reservtions, travel must be completed on the first reservtion before a second reservation is accepted. This is due to the popularity of the the CRA resorts during peak season. Reservtions are required and may be made up to 60 days in advance throught RPI's central reservtions office. Drive-ups are not accepted. Holidays and holiday weekends are reserved for CRA members only. For shopping, we found a WalMart real close and did most of our grocery shopping there. There's many other shopping malls and restaurants up and down the main road.

You'll find Yuma Lakes coming from Yuma by taking Hwy 95 north 6 miles to 7E (near Circle K convenience store), then turning left. Go 3 miles to County 6 St and turn right. Go 1.5 miles on County 6 St to the resort entrance. If you're coming from Gila Bend on I-8 go right at exit 12 to Hwy 95. Go south on Hwy95 to road 7E (near Circle K). Go right on 7E 3 miles to County 6 St, turn right. Go 1.5 miles to resort.

We love this resort and will be returning. The address is, Yuma Lakes, 6275 South 8 1/2 E, Yuma AZ, 85365 and their phone number is 928-726-5860. For member's mail: use General Delivery, Yuma, AZ 85364. It can be found on your GPS.

We purchased a newer motorhome at the RV Peddler and the allowed us about a 3 day stay so we could transfer our belongings from the old RV to the new one. They are a great bunch of people to work with. From there we headed home on about January 13th. We made some stops along the way in California and Oregon on our way home to Washington It was a great winter vacation that took us through about 4 states and many wonderful RV resorts and parks. We're planning another trip. Actually, we loved it so much, we're planning to go fulltime this summer and Yuma Lakes will definitely be on our list of places to stay. Maybe someday we will meet. Don't hesitate to say "hello". We're the ones in the 2005 Alfa See Ya! One of the ones!
