Yves Saint Laurent and the 70s Inspired Milan Fashion Week Spring 2011

Milan Hearkens Back to Fashion's Favorite Decade with One of Fashion's Greatest

Milan Fashion Week is over and Paris Fashion has begun. Even by cutting a few smaller labels from the Milan schedule there were still plenty of designer collections to view. Even with a myriad of original designs from each fashion house Italian design houses had two common influences for spring/summer 2011: Yves Saint Laurent(YSL) and the 1970s. Take a look at the collections that were heavily influenced by YSL and the 70s during Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.

Albino Spring 2011 Pays Homage to Yves Saint Laurent

While most of the collections featured hints of Yves fashion influence the Albino spring 2011 collection was driven by it. Classic Yves Saint Laurent glamour from the 1970s helped Albino produce a grown and sexy collection that departed from the juvenile tendencies of the label's fall 2010 collection. Large floppy hats paired with casual suits and lady-like trenches along with spiced hues and chartreuse are signature YSL Influences. View the Albino Spring/Summer 2011 Collection here.

Emilio Pucci Hearkens Back to Fashion's Favorite Decade for Spring 2011

Head designer Peter Dundas' collection for Emilio Pucci was laden with the sexy, carefree style of mid- to late 1970s fashion. Long flowing dresses, skinny pants with high sheen and body conscious button-down shirts that were prominent in 70s fashion graced the Pucci runway. These looks were accessorized with long, slightly wavy hair, wide headbands and killer above-the knee boots. Dundas made the 1970s fresh for spring 2011. Check out the video of the Emilio Pucci Spring/Summer 2011 collection here.

Both the Albino and Emilio Pucci spring 2011 collections captured the essence of two of Milan's biggest influences for spring. Other fashion houses such as Gucci, Alberta Ferretti and Salvatore Ferragamo produced fantastic interpretations of these influences for spring 2011. Go to Style.com or Women's Wear Daily to see all of the Milan spring collections and begin planning your own 70s and Yves Saint Laurent revival next spring.

Ha ha! Lela I can't argue that there were some major fashion missteps made by individuals during that decade. However, this happens in every era especially when clothing is purchased that is not worn properly; is too tight or loose; or is mix-match.

I hate the 70s and I refuse to go back there. They were bad clothes then and they are horrible now. Go look at a god-awful picture of your parents from 1972 and you'll regret buying anything that looks that bad.
