Zach Braff - a Bio on that Guy from Scrubs

TechTips
Zach Braff plays John "J.D." Dorian on the hit sitcom Scrubs but there is more to the man then just this one popular character and show. Zach Braff is an accomplished actor, writer, and director. He has been nominated for 3 Golden Globe's and an Emmy for his role on scrubs, but has a Grammy Award as producer of the Garden State Soundtrack. Zach has done a lot in his short career and will continue to deliver.

Other than being a doctor on Scrubs, Zach Braff wrote, directed and stared in the movie Garden State in 2004, along side Natalie Portman. The movie almost wasn't made when the producers were reluctant to financially back the movie, which Braff wrote in six months. After the movie was successful Braff was offered many scripts and parts in movies which he turned down because he didn't think they were movies he would go see or like to be a part of.

Zach grew up in South Orange, New Jersey he went to high school at Columbia High in Maplewood, New Jersey. At age 10 Braff was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive disorder and says he wasn't happy being in the public school system. Braff graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Film and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

In August of 2006, Zach Braff said he wanted to focus on his movie career and wouldn't be on Scrubs after the 6th season. After long anticipated contract negotiations with the network Braff has decided he would come back for a final season of Scrubs. It has been rumored that he will make $350,000 an episode which would make him one of the highest paid male actors in TV. To put that in perspective he would be as well paid as Charlie Sheen for "Two and a half men".

Braff has been in a few main stream movies most recently The Last Kiss, which was a romantic drama where two people fact the fact that they are turning 30. Braff re-wrote and tweaked the script so he could better relate to his character. Tony Goldwyn compared Braff to a young Tom Hanks saying he was likeable and easily accessible to an audience and called him an everyman. That is a pretty notable comparison in my eyes; Tom Hanks is one of the most respected actors in Hollywood.

Braff's most recent film is title The Ex and it's a "silly comedy" quoted directed from Braff. The movie was released on May 11th of this year. Braff was in talks to star in Fletch Won but dropped out so he could work on Open Hearts which he will direct. He is also working on co-writing a film with his brother which will be an adaptation of the children's book Andrew Henry's Meadow, he is writing it with his brother.

Braff even got the honor of hosting the season finale of Saturday Night Live this year, he hosted the 31st Season finale where he played a character in high school who was trying to convince the students of the importance of Garden State on their generation.

The Zach Braff rumor mill is often running new stories that are most of the time false. Like the time they claimed Braff was engaged to Mandy Moore (the couple dated for almost 2 years) or the time they linked him romantically to Jessica Simpson. Braff is quoted as saying I wish I was leading a fraction of the life the tabloids have him leading.

So what is in store for Braff in the next year? Well Zach will continue on Scrubs for a 7th and final season and then who knows what else will come. He is a busy guy working on movie scripts, writing, directing, and furthering his movie career. I think it's pretty safe to say that Zach is going to be around for a long time.
