Zack & Miri Make a Porno: Movie Review

Movie Review

Kevin Smith has done it again with this hilarious look into the lives of ordinary people made to do a few extraordinary things, on camera, for money. I've been a loyal fan of Smith since the black and white clerks that launched him into fan. Those days seem so far away sometimes, but then I get his latest dose of comedic genius and the memories come flooding back.

So in this film we enter the lives of Zack Brown (Seth Rogen) and Miriam Linky (Elizabeth Banks), two life-long friends struggling to make their ever piling bills payments. During a high school reunion Zack meets gay porn star whom enlightens him to the large amount of money that can be made selling porn. After their power is shut off the two of them hatch a plan to shoot a porno to pay off their bills once and for all. Such begins a undertaking they soon realize is a lot larger than once thought.

If we have learned anything about Kevin's movies it's that in most cases people miss the point of his films. That is probably because they are trying too hard to find one. Sometimes there is no message, certainly there is the underlining love between Zack and Miri that takes a porno to unveil, but really true to Kevin's style the whole story is just a bunch of really funny stuff that happened with a happy ending. It's good to know that there are filmmakers out there that aren't trying to preach all the time and just hoping to get a few laughs out of the audience.

Through the grapevine I heard that certain stores have refused to carry the DVD of

Zack and Miri make a porno until PORNO is dropped from the title. Sadly those store's will just have to go without that item to stuff into their gigantic movie bins to be riffled through, I'm certain we all feel the sting. Honestly though, the title of a film usually is to catch the customers attention so they will pick up the movie and want to buy it. I can't think of something any more eye-catching, can you? Not everyone has seen the movie trailers. Certain retail stores should be wise to remember that before they start making demands.

By now I'm certain those that haven't seen the movie yet are wondering 'do they show sex?' The answer is yes, as much sex that qualifies as suitable for mainstream film and not an actual porno. There isn't anything erotic or sexy about this film, it is just funny, plain and simple. It gives you an idea of what actual porn stars might be going through while they are filming their own projects. There are awkward moments, mistakes, and one really bad close-up that goes horribly wrong, resulting in a big surprise for the cameraman. All of this stuff is very much worth seeing because you will laugh at every minute of it.

This is one DVD I'm planning on adding to my personal collection, do yourselves a favour and do the same. You won't have trouble watching it over and over again.
