A new update in the Zahra Baker case, police say a bone found may be linked to the missing 10 year old. Hickory, North Carolina police say that they found a bone in neighboring Caldwell County where the Baker family lived in September of this year.

The bone has been sent to the crime lab to see if it is linked to the case of the missing 10 year old girl, Zahra Baker. Zahra Baker is presumed dead after she was reported missing by her father on October 9, 2010. Authorities have stated that evidence in the case points to foul play and they have since been searching for a body.

Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker is currently in jail and was indicted on two counts of obstruction of justice charges. Elisa admitted that she falsified a ransom note to make it look like someone was trying to abduct her husband's boss' daughter, but took Zahra by mistake. She has also lied to police.

Adam Baker, Zahra's father, was arrested briefly on unrelated bad check charges before being released on bond.

A bone found in the Zahra Baker case is the most significant lead yet, however, there is other evidence in the case such as a prosthetic leg that belonged to the missing disabled girl and two mattresses that were recovered from a landfill and are believed to be Zahra's.

The Zahra Baker case needed a new lead and a bone found is good news for investigators. The police have been searching for the girl who suffers from hearing loss and an amputated leg after recovering from bone cancer.

Zahra and her father Adam were originally from Australia. They moved to the United States more than a year ago after Adam met Elisa online. The two married and Zahra began school here in the U.S. This fall, Zahra was not enrolled in school. Elisa started telling neighbors and friends that Zahra was home schooled, but she was not officially registered and no one saw any signs of school work being done.

Neighbors, family and friends noticed that Zahra was frequently punished by Elisa Baker and many thought that she was abusive. Zahra had many unexplained bruises and sometimes she was hit in front of witnesses. She was reported to social services, but nothing became of it before her disappearance.

Elisa recently wrote several letters to an internet blogger where she admitted that Zahra died by said that neither he or her husband killed her. She said that what her husband did after the death was "horrifying."

This new evidence of a bone being found may just be what the police need to find Zahra Baker.
