Stepmother, Elisa Baker Says that Zahra is Not Missing

There is a smoking gun update in the Zahra Baker case. Her stepmother, Elisa Baker wrote letters to friends and family while she was in jail. She wrote 'We didn't really kill her but what he did after the fact is kinda horrifying. Makes me scared of him.'

Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker said that Zahra is not missing, she said that police know and "he knows" where Zahra is. The disabled 10 year old was reported missing on October 9, 2010, but she has not been seen in public since September 25, 2010, making it difficult for investigators to figure out the time line of events. In the letters she said, "So many missing kids, but Zahra isn't missing, the cops know where she is and what he has done. That's right what he has done. If I hadn't admitted to that stupid note I'd be out in 3 weeks but no they kept pushing and he did that too."

Zahra wears a prosthetic leg on her left leg due to bone cancer. She also wears two hearing aids. Her prosthetic leg was found this week near a home where Elisa Baker used to live. The police now have these incriminating letters that Elisa wrote while in jail. The police have not verified that the letters were written by Elisa Baker, but they have said that the handwriting does look consistent with her handwriting.

Elisa complained in the letters that she would be out of jail already if it was not for the ransom note. "He knows what happened to Zahra and yet I'm the one in here, at least for now." Elisa admitted to police that she wrote a phony ransom note to throw them off the trail of Zahra. She has not admitted to doing any harm to Zahra.

The police believe that Zahra may have been missing much earlier than her parents reported. Zahra and her father, Adam Baker are from Australia. Zahra's biological mother and other family members still live in Australia. Zahra and her father moved to the United States after Adam, 33 met Elisa, 46 online. They married more than one year ago and Zahra began going to public school. This school year, Zahra was never registered for school. Her stepmother, Elisa, told people that she was home schooling, but she never registered Zahra and friends and family members say she was not home schooling the girl.

Neighbors had reported that Elisa Baker abused Zahra to social services, but nothing was done and the neighborhood is very angry about that fact now that Zahra is presumed dead.

Adam Baker was briefly arrested on charges unrelated to Zahra's disappearance but then he was released on bail.

Elisa Baker has been indicted on two counts of obstruction of justice this week for lying to police and create the false ransom note. Her bail has been increased because authorities believe that she is a flight risk.

Zahra's body has not been found, but police are still looking.

The letters that were sent by Elisa Baker to friends and family members, have been turned over to police.
