Little Zahra Baker overcame so much in her short life. She was a survivor who had a smile that beamed pure sunshine. She lost a leg to bone cancer and hearing to chemo, but none of that stopped her. Her story has captured the hearts of many in the U.S. and Australia.

Zahra's remains were found last week. It has come to light the girl was dismembered and her remains taken to various locations to be disposed of.

Her stepmother, Elisa Baker, has been cooperating with authorities and last month, accompanied them to various locations in Caldwell and Catawba Counties where she pointed out to law enforcement locations where they could find evidence. Evidence has also been found at a landfill and at the Baker home in Hickory.

The motion filed by Mrs. Baker's attorney details her clients involvement in the location of evidence and cooperation with authorities in the case in hopes bail will be reduced.

Elisa Baker Cooperating with Law Enforcement:

According to court documents obtained from WCNC in Charlotte, N.C., a motion filed by attorney Lisa Dubbs, Elisa Baker began cooperating with authorities October 24. The following day, she went with authorities to three sites where she said Zahra's remains could be found and described what would be found at each site. She identified a part of Zahra's prosthetic leg and a gel liner belonging to the girl.

Remains were found at two locations. A bone was recovered at the Christie Road location and remains believed to be those of Zahra Baker were found at the Dudley Shoals location.

On October 26, landfill employees found a mattress Mrs. Baker said had been placed in a dumpster.

Who Killed Zahra Baker?

No one has been charged with Zahra's murder but the stepmother remains jailed in Catawba County on charges she wrote a fake ransom note designed to throw off those investigating Zahra's disappearance. Zahra's father, 33-year-old Adam Baker, was briefly jailed on charges unrelated to his daughter's case.

In letters Elisa Baker purportedly wrote to Eric Gein, a crime memorabilia dealer who contacted Baker using a fictitious name, she said her husband knew what happened to Zahra, indicating he may be involved somehow.

"We really didn't kill her, but what he did after the fact is kinda horrifying ... [It] makes me scared of him. So I probably am gonna go ahead and file [for divorce]. I have lost my whole life anyway," Mrs. Baker said.

Today would have been Zahra Baker's 11th birthday. A vigil organized by the Child Protection Council of Catawba County will take place this evening in honor of Zahra.

This is so sad. It just sickens me. This child seemed so happy and full of life. To take that away from her, after what she's been through.... it's something I cannot even begin to comprehend.

Anyways thank you for covering this case. Let's hope justice is served for Zahra

Elisa Baker took the police to the place where Zahra's body parts were. That is because she put them there! She should be executed, given the death penalty.
