Zathura This Space Adventure Begins when You Take Your First Turn at the Game

In real life, imagination can only take you so far. If something could take you further you'd find Zathura. This space adventure begins when you take your first turn at the game.

Danny (Jonah Bobo) and Walter (Josh Hutcherson) are brothers living in the new home of their recently divorced father. The fighting siblings happen upon the antiquated space game Zathura.

They begin to play and get caught up in the challenges that it creates. The game becomes real as they notice… the house is floating in space. Now it's up to the boys to find their way through all of the perils of the game and find their way home.

Not as energetic or lively as it's predecessor Jumanji, Zathura seems to lack the qualities that made Jumanji captivating. Jumanji featured a host of CGI animals romping though and wrecking the house and subsequent town, the comedy genius of Robin Williams, and a believable antagonist in the hunter. These driving forces are missing and therefore drag the pace of the film.

On the positive side, this story brings in a more human element as the brothers discover a connection between them that was not there before. You'll never know how important someone is in your life until you realize that you can lose them.

This movie is one for the kids to enjoy and the parents to pay for. Not one I'd bother to see in the theatre. It can wait to be rented on DVD.
