After a long dialog with Zant you will discover his origins and his purpose then the fight will begin. In this fight against the King you'll notice that you cannot reflect his magic attacks as you might first assume, and for good reason. Many veteran Zelda players will be thrown off by this move, wanting to swing their sword to deflect attacks, but in reality the player need only take notice of their surroundings in order to take out Zant.
Notice the way in which Zant moves and the surrounding area seem familiar, and that's because they are recreations of levels Link faced boss's in throughout the game. First use the Boomerang just like you did in the forest temple and you'll have knocked Zant out in no time, but be ready for a change of scenery. The trick to beating Zant is to stay calm when facing down his attacks and figure out which boss he is imitating, then fight just like you did against that former boss and the battle will be yours! Just be sure to move swiftly to dodge his attacks then counterattack with the weapon you used on that particular boss, or use the strategy that worked best.
Now after beating Zant in his first forms you'll be transported to the barrier around the castle in Castle Town, and this is where you'll face Zant in an all out sword fight. Watch his erratic movements and allow Zant to tire himself out. He will use a spinning attack that is actually quite easy to dodge, just be sure to keep an eye on your foe. Then after he stops moving and tries to catch his breath attack with everything you have. In no time at all the false king will fall to the power of Link's Master Sword and you'll have beaten Zant.
During the fight be sure to keep an eye on your health gauge. Make sure to have at least two purple or blue potions on hand to replenish your full health, and also try to keep a couple of fairies around just in case one of Zant's more powerful attacks does more damage then you would have expected. Now with Zant dead you can focus on the next step in your journey, defeating Gannondorf who now has total control over the palace of Hyrule.
