When we left off last time, we bore witness to a sneak attack that left an Ordonian knocked out cold and subsequentially kidnapped. Then, as the enemy called the twilight in over the land, the path to the Faron Woods sealed up behind a black roadblock as your character rushed to escape. Now, as we rejoin the story in progress we can only watch helplessly as the lead character succumbs to the twilight and literally transforms into a wolf, passes out from the shock - and is then pulled away into the distance by the enemy forces. To make things worse, upon awakening our hero is found chained and locked in a prison cell.
After trying to break free from your bonds, you notice a shady, mysterious being show up. This is your assistant - or rather, what will shortly become your assistant for much of the remainder of the game. Introducing herself as Midna, the stranger beckons you to break out of jail, as in literally. But she only helps you so far at this point as releasing you from the chains, so you'll have to do the rest yourself. To do this, charge into the debris lying in the corner near the cell door, then dig in that spot to sneak out of the cell. Midna will then offer her help in exchange for helping her back, or so to speak.
Now enter the next cell over and pull the chain to unlock a nearby door, which you must enter. This leads you into a labyrinthine sewer. As you enter, you'll see what looks like a floating orb... but if you use your senses, you'll find out that it's really somebody from the normal reality existing in the twilight as a spirit. The result of this is that you can listen in on what the person is saying across into the twilight, which you will have to do many times throughout the game for plot advancement. Now follow the left path to move onward.
When you get to the left end of the path, jump the gap and proceed down the next hallway, through the gate. At the intersection, you'll notice a spiked floor on one side and a clear pasth on the other. Although you must pass over the spikes to proceed, it's too dangerous to do so at the moment, so take the left path for now. Pull the chain when you get there, and return to the intersection. Now you can cros the spikes by swimming to the other end of - and over - the hazard. Continue to the next intersection and turn left until Midna dismounts and slips through the bars. You can't follow her quite like that, however, so you'll have to lower the water in order to proceed. U-turn back to the intersection and keep moving until you reach another chain. You should know the drill by now, so do your thing and reverse back to the bars. Enter the tunnel on the left side and follow it until you reach Midna.
You now have to climb a long stairway to the top of this tower. Problem is, the steps are a bit loose and you'll soon drop back to the bottom. Don't worry about it - just try again, and Midna will give you a hand. To use her help (which you must do several times throughout the game) you must accept her help with the up trigger on the D-pad when prompted, target her with the Z trigger, and then press the A button to jump toward Midna and continue onward. Repeat whenever needed to continue up the stairs until you reach the top... or almost to the top - you'll have to cross a tightrope en route. Then, when you get to the locked door climb on top of the stones to the right of the door, and work with Midna to get to te extreme top of the tower, and proceed thorough the opening you find up there.
Now it gets tricky - it took me several tries just to get through this insane area. First off, follow the path until you see a spirit you can listen in on. Afterward, proceed to the left to a box which you must climb on top of. Do so, then hop over the barrier onto a circular platform. Now head to the right, and continue until you reach a wodden balcony and onto the rooftop (with Midna's help, no less) and... WHAT THE F---!? Oh no, here come some mad as hell bird bombers trying to swoop down on you! Be careful in taking them out, or you'll fall over the edge... and it's a LONG way down! Believe me, it took me a lot of work to get past this little cluster----! It helps to head straight down the left side onto a ledge where you can fight the swarm more easily... or take this sugestion from IGN and use your spin attack to counter before jumping onto the roof.
Either way, once those birdbrains are out of the picture you must follow the roof until you reach a window, which you must enter. Follow the path headed upstairs to reach Princess Zelda, who explains that a mysterious army led by the shadow king Zant is responsible for the horrid events across the kingdom. Listen to her story as she recounts the horrors, then prepare yourself to escape before the guards catch you. Alas, it looks like Midna needs to help you out of this one as the soldiers start mounting the stairs before you can exit! You'll soon find yourself back in the normal reality, but there's a catch because...
Well, on second thought I'll juszt hold the surprise for next time, when we cover the remainder of the opening portion of the game. Stay tuned for part three, coming soon...
