Zen Cart Tutorial - How to Create New Product Categories in Zen Cart

Zen Cart is about the best software for creating online shopping carts. Before you can add your items to the website, you will need to create categories for them to go in. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create new product categories in Zen Cart. You will need to visit your Zen Cart site and login to your admin panel. Then we will get started.

Once you are inside your admin panel, you will need to place your mouse over the Catalog link at the top of your page. When the menu drops down, click the Categories / Products link. The page you are on now will have a button that says New Category. Click that button to open the new category page. Now you will be on the page where you can create your new category. I will walk you through the fields on this page.

Category Name - This is the name of your category. Type the name you want for this category. If you want it to be clothing, then you would enter clothing in this field.

Category Description - This is where you will enter the description of the category.

Category Images - This is where you will select your image that will represent the category. You will need to click the Browse button. When the box opens, locate the folder with the image you want to use. Then double click the image to open it.

Upload - Since you are creating a category, you will want to upload the image to the categories folder. So, drop this box down and select category.

File Name - If you already have the image uploaded that you want to use, enter the file name in this field. If you are uploading the image using the Browse field, leave this field blank.

Sort Order - Your sort order will determine where in the menu this category will be placed. If you want it to be the first category in the menu, you would set it to 1. If you wanted it to be 4th in the menu, you would enter 4 in this field. And so on, you get the point.

Once you have filled in the above fields, click the Save button at the bottom of the page. You will now be redirected back to the Zen Cart category page and you will see the new category you just created. You can click the New Category button again and add another category. You will need to continue doing this until you have created all of your categories.
