Zhu Zhu is a robotic pet hamster and the hottest toy to hit the market so far for the 2009 Christmas toy season. The Zhu Zhu hamster is a small sit-in-your-palm, interactive pet with a personality. Zhu Zhu is just like having a real hamster but there is no cage to clean up. These little furry hamsters are battery-powered and they squeak like a hamster and roll across the floor.

Zhu Zhu is also almost impossible to find in retail stores and has been classified the 2009 hottest Christmas toy.

Zhu Zhu is produced by Cepia LLC, a company in St. Louis. These furry friends normally sell for between $8 upwards to $10 each in retail stores such as Walmart and Toys R Us. There are also accessories for Zhu Zhu like the Hamster Wheel and Tunnel, or the Zhu Zhu Pets Giant Hamster Funhouse. The Zhu Zhu accessories can normally be purchased for anywhere from $10 to $22.

But don't think that you are going to be able to go out and easily find these little Zhu Zhu friends. This 2009 hottest Christmas toy is sold out of stores everywhere. Here in Dayton, Oh I called a few local retailers and none of them have the Zhu Zhu in stock and don't know when to expect them. One woman at the local Toys R Us said, "We have calls all the time for the Zhu Zhu and we simply don't have any." It's the same story with the Zhu Zhu accessories.

But the Zhu Zhu can be had if you are willing to pay the price for the 2009 hottest Christmas toy. Out on ebay.com and other sites the free market enterprise is alive and well and doing business when it comes to the Zhu Zhu hamster. Currently on ebay you can get a ZHU Zhu Num Num, only in gray, for $30. If you really want to pay big dollars you can get the ZHU ZHU Pets 18 Piece Mega Lot *5* Hamsters Complete Set for $575!

On Amazon.com you can get Zhu Zhu Hamster Pipsqueek for $52.48 or a Zhu Zhu Pets Mr. Squiggles for $52.45. Remember this is a robotic hamster people. Unless supply of these furry Zhu Zhu friends increases dramatically, I guess if you really want a Zhu Zhu - you are going to be paying a hefty price for this 2009 hottest Christmas toy.

There is still a chance, in the six weeks left until Christmas, that you might be incredibly lucky and be able to find the Zhu Zhu Hamster at the regular retail price. But otherwise you will be paying a lot more for this 2009 hottest Christmas toy.
