Zhu Zhu Hamsters are the "Tickle Me Elmo" of 2009. Parents of kids that want Zhu Zhu Hamsters know that these hamsters are very hard to find. Don't know what a Zhu Zhu hamster is? You will soon. Even CNN recognizes how hot these little robotic hamsters are. My favorite thing about Zhu Zhus are that they are similar to a real live hamster, except that they don't stink and you don't have to feed them. There are plenty of hamster toys that go with your child's Zhu Zhu including hamster wheels, hamster balls, and little cages with mazes in them. When Toys R Us announced that they would have "tens of thousands" of Zhu Zhu hamsters in stock just in time for Black Friday, many parents turned in a good night's sleep after a busy Thanksgiving Day for a midnight trip to Toys R Us.

People lined up at the Toys R Us flagship store in New York City as early as 5 pm on Thanksgiving Day, waiting in a line just for Zhu Zhu hamsters. Toys R Us staffers handed out red tickets which guaranteed that the individuals would be allowed to purchase the little robotic hamsters, making it worth the trip for many shoppers.

New York isn't the only place that has reported Zhu Zhu hamster shortages. The Baltimore Sun reports that shoppers have lined outside of local Toys R Us stores waiting for them to open at 9:00 AM daily. Once shoppers found out that Zhu Zhu hamsters were not available, shoppers left. Parents have even gone as far as to wake their kids up at the wee hours of the morning in hopes of finding the Zhu Zhu hamsters at Walmart. They were out of luck.

Where can you find Zhu Zhu hamsters this Christmas? With the Zhu Zhu shortage causing a Zhu Zhu fever, I would definitely check eBay for deals on these coveted toys. In addition, I just headed over to Amazon.com and they have Zhu Zhu hamsters in stock, although they cost about $60 a piece. For parents that have a child begging for this toy, it may be a great idea to head online before everyone else gets the idea.

Part of the joys of parenting are purchasing your children everything they desire for Christmas. Would you have ever thought that you would be standing outside for 13 hours waiting to purchase a robotic hamster? It's worth it, though when you see the delight in your child's eyes on Christmas morning.
