Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters to Be Recalled?

Will the Lead Content Reports Prompt a Recall of Zhu Zhu Pets?

What was slated to be the hottest Christmas toy of the 2009 season may have had the brakes put on. The Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are suddenly under scrutiny, and eager gift-giving parents may be thinking twice about this must have gift. But the questions remains: will the manufacturer recall the robotic hamsters? According to their website, not right now.

Trouble began for the Zhu Zhu pet hamsters when The Good Guide published a report last week stating that the hamsters generally, Mr. Squiggles in particular, contain potentially unsafe levels of antimony and lead.

Russ Hornsby, CEO of Cepia, the Zhu Zhu pets manufacturer, issued a press release stating "We are disputing the findings of Good Guide and we are 100 percent confident that Mr. Squiggles, and all other Zhu Zhu Toys, are safe and compliant with all U.S. and European standards for consumer health and safety in toys."

Cepia also asks that consumers read the company's own safety reports, which can be found at www.zhuzhupets.com
